Jace thought a change of class is all he needed. His brother, Alex already graduated. No more people having expectations from him.
As much as he hated Alex, he couldn't help but admire his achievements. Alex stood first in his exams and was sort of a football prodigy. He had everyone fawning over him. Of course, it may also be because he was Star Captain of their school team. The title stuck around because Alex made them sweat around so much they won every match.
Jace would credit the coach, but he didn't do much before. Everyone was heartbroken as Alex left the school except for Jace. He was overjoyed at the fact he wouldn't have to hide anymore.
The teachers and students would see him for his talents and not because of his brother's skills. His joy was short-live
