I looked toward the door, and Tondae was standing in the doorway, concerned. “May I come in?" “Yes, of course," I replied, returning her smile. “I'm sorry I worried you—" “You, my dear, have nothing to be sorry for." She strolled into the room and perched on the chair next to the bed. “I'm so sorry to hear about your parents." I nodded, a lump forming in my throat. “Thanks." Tears fell onto my cheeks again as images of my mother and father filled my mind. “Hey...." Tondae sat gingerly on the edge of the bed and gave my hand a gentle squeeze. “I know we're no substitute, but you still have us.
