Fear gripped me. The great conspiracy like a black hole, and I opened my mouth with difficulty to say something, but I didn't know what to say, and I felt all my strength was being sucked out of me.
Cynthia was not my real name. Mr. Madison was very kind to me for a time after I was taken into the manor, and it was then that he changed my name to Cynthia.
Even when we married, he called me by that name, and I dropped my old one for that reason. But IT never occurred to me that the name was fake, that it was someone else's identity.
And what about me? Was I taking over someone else's life?
