The Rich Idiot

Hazel's POV "Mommy this is small than the one we live at" little Savannah says the minute we both walk into the new house that I bought. "Sweetie, but this is where we are going to live at from now" I tell her and I see her face falls a little. I am not going to lie, but the house that Adrian and I bought just after we got married.. that was huge and lavish! But now with no source of income and running out of all schemes and savings, I couldn't pay the bills anymore. My parents and Adrian's offered help but for how long I am going to sit around and accept help and then jump back into the sorrows of losing my husband? That is exactly why I am here. I want to restart my life. I want to finally move on. I am definitely not looking for another man to share my life with. But I want to explore different options my life has to offer. For now, a good paying job and a good school for my daughter to study is all I have. "But I promise you, Savannah. I will work harder and one day.. we will have a big house again" I tell her. Savannah just nods but she still looks disappointed. I mean, I cannot blame her. If I was six and my parents suddenly threw me into a house that is not even half the size I lived till then, I would be sad and mad too. "I only need one help from you" I say and she looks at me. "I want you to make as many friends as you can and you can invite them to play at our home anytime you want" I say and her frown instantly turns into a wide smile. "Can I?" She asks. "Of course! I would make sure to bake cupcakes for you and all your friends" I say and Savannah squeals as she hugs me. Children are simple. We tend to complicate their already simple childhood by trying to give them what is better for them. Sometimes, we just need to give them what they want and let them figure out on their own if that is necessary or not. Savannah runs across the living room and into the empty rooms there are. "I want the one downstairs mommy" she says. "Okay sweetie. I will take the one upstairs then" I tell her. I help Savannah unpack her luggage first. Since she was tired and it is already night, we decided to quit having mother daughter cooking day and instead decided to go out. We can explore the place too. I keep driving through the streets hoping to find a decent kid friendly place to eat and after fifteen minutes of driving, I finally find one! Savannah and I walk in hand in hand and the interior looks better than the exterior. We find a table with two seats just by the window and walk towards it. I help Savannah climb up since the chair is a bit tall for her age and her height. And I sit in mine once she looks safe and settled. The menu is of mixed cuisine and it is refreshing to see few items on the menu that I have never seen or heard before. "What do you want, Savannah?" I ask her. "Mac n cheese mommy" she smiles and I nod. Soon a waitress comes and takes our order. I ordered some shakshuka and since it is rainy outside, flavourful and warm dish comforts me right now. Savannah tells me how she is going to decorate her room with Elsa posters and I keep listening to her. One day, I will take her to Disneyland. Not just Elsa but she can at least see what Disney has to offer. She had this small crush on Moana before Elsa completely took over her heart. She is just six but memorised all lyrics of Let it go song. She is that dedicated to Elsa. "Excuse me do you mind if I sit here?" Someone asks me and I look at him. He is tall. Like six feet tall and is well built. He is in business suit and this looks like a small restaurant so I wonder what he must be doing here. He raises his eyebrow and I look around. The restaurant is packed. I nod and he grabs a chair I don't know where it came from. "And then Elsa asks Anna to get rid of that peace bridge" Savannah says. I have seen both Frozen one and two for hundred times now but she still narrates me about it every single day. Sometimes, I am afraid her obsession might turn into something different. Our food arrives and I thank God. I am starting to have some head ache. The man with us at the table is typing furiously on his phone and it looks like a busy thing. Savannah only shuts her mouth two times a day. One, when she is eating. And two, when she is sleeping. I tear a piece of bread and dip that into the tomato base of shakshuka and then eat my egg. Ah! This tastes so good. I see Savannah enjoying her meal too. This guy's phone keeps receiving messages and calls and it is sort of starting to get annoying. Before I ask him to either put the phone on silent mode or to answer the call, he himself answers the call and I am more than glad about it. "I don't fucking care!" He almost shouts on the call and I have this sudden urge to smack him. There are children around him! He doesn't have that common sense right now. But I stay calm even though I am receiving stares right now. People are starting to think we are together. "Just ask that bitch to back off! It was just a stupid one night stand. I did not even fucking enjoy-" Before he finishes the sentence, I snatch the phone away from his ear. He glares at me but I glare harder. I look around and he looks around too. He then realises all the eyes are on us and he looks at me in confusion. "Have some decency, Mister! There are kids here and every single sentence you spoke were inappropriate" I tell him. He looks around, then at Savannah who is just staring at him. He then looks at me and nods. I roll my eyes and give him his phone. He doesn't talk anything and shoves his phone in his pocket. He then proceeds to order a grilled cheese sandwich. And he literally eats it in three bites. Either he is hungry or he is in rush. I help Savannah wipe her mouth but since I am sitting at the other end of the table, I cannot quite reach her. When cheese is involved, she gets messy. Other times, she is just fine. The man who sat with us, grabs the tissue from my hand and he wipes the excess cheese that is now stuck on Savannah's cheek. I appreciate him but I don't understand why he is doing it. The waitress comes with two checks in her hand but this man takes both of them and pays our bill too. "What?" I ask him. "Gratitude" he says and he helps Savannah get down the chair. I hold Savannah's hand as we three walk out since he is done with his meal too. "Why?" I ask him again and he smiles. I notice he has dimples. "For saving my decency" he smiles and walks away. He hops into his rich as heck Mercedes car and drives off soon. Such an idiot for paying my bill when all I did was snatch his phone and force him to shove it back.
