Dean and Valerie arrive at school, but they see Little Dean nowhere. For a moment, Valerie can feel her heart pounding in her chest. Where is her son? She's relieved when she sees him coming around the corner in the arms of a police officer, and then she freezes. The police officer is none other than the godfather of the Italian Mafia. She knows that Dean does not trust the police. She cannot blame him, but he trusts the Italian Mafia more than the police. To Valerie, it does not make sense. However, she knows Dean knows what he's doing. Perhaps he knows more about the police around here than she does. Maybe the police are on the payroll of the old money families.
