No one knew how long it had been when the doors to the operating room finally swung open.
"Doctor, how is she?" James asked anxiously.
"She'll be okay. The fever was caused by the pain from hidden internal injuries. We were so focused on her throat that we missed them at first. Whatever she went through... it must've been awful for her to end up like this." The doctor sighed.
As a doctor, he always tried to stay out of patients' personal lives. But seeing someone so young—her throat slashed, body battered—it made him wonder what kind of nightmare she'd survived.
Shaking his head, the doctor walked away.
James just stood there, frozen. It took a moment before his hands started to shake.
