WILLIAM. I was still standing there thinking about my father, my fingers absentmidely running over the cool metal of the locket in my hands. I felt something on the back and turned it over. There was an inscription in beautiful decorative writing, "For Maeve, my heart is yours always X," it read. I felt my brow furrow in confusion. I read it again to make sure that I hadn't gotten it wrong. It definitely said Maeve. I knew that my father had originally been betrothed to my aunt and that when she had disappeared right before their wedding was due to take place, my mother had married him instead.
