AMBER
The next morning, I woke to my phone ringing. I glanced at the screen and saw that it was Adam. I got a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach looking at his name. I highly doubted that he was ringing for anything good. I clicked the button to answer the call and braced myself for whatever he was about to say. "I read your little note. So you have run off to your boyfriend at the Moon River pack then have you? I always knew that there was something going on between the two of you. He is welcome to you, I have everything that I need right here with me. In fact, I think that I should thank you. You have given me the perfect excuse to do what I should have done as soon as I realised that I was falling in love with Paige, possibly even before that," he said angrily. I could feel my own anger building at the fact that he was attempting to accuse me of cheating while moving another woman into our home. The audacity of it made my blood boil. "And what exactly is it that you plan to do?" I asked. I could almost hear his sneer through the phone. "I will be heading to the Moon River pack myself to reject you once and for all."
His words hit me like a ton of bricks. I felt the breath leave my lungs. My heart felt as though it shattered into a thousand pieces. If he rejected me, then there would no longer be any hope. Even if I managed to find a way to break the magic that was affecting my entire pack, our bond would still be broken. "You can't be serious!" I finally managed to say. He laughed, and that laugh felt like daggers to what was left of my broken heart. "Oh, I am deadly serious. Once it is done and I am no longer tied to you, you will have a choice to make. You can either choose to live at the Lakeside pack, but not as it's Luna. You will relinquish that title and all the privilege that comes with it. You will live and work as an omega. Or you will be banished from the pack and will no longer be welcome there. Either way, Paige will be my new Luna. She will take her place beside me and provide me with the heirs that you could not," he said. "What about the twins?" I asked. "Keep them. They are not my children," he said cruelly. "Make your choice, Amber, for I will be expecting your answer when I arrive," he finished. Before I could respond, I heard a click, and the line went dead.
ALPHA ADAM MORRIS
I was so f*****g angry when I realised where Amber had gone. I guess a part of me had still hoped that she would agree to stay and be a part of what Paige and I would build. The three of us could have been happy together, but no. Clearly, she had chosen to leave. In that case, I would make sure that it hurt her. I would strip her of her title. I still wanted her to be part of the Lakeside pack, though. She was still a silver wolf, after all. Having her here would only help the pack. It would give us strength. I realised that once I rejected her as my mate that I would lose the physical advantages that came with the bond, but that couldn't be helped. I packed a bag and headed downstairs to see Paige standing at the cooker, making me breakfast. She had slept here last night, even spent the night in my bed. Yet we hadn't had s*x. She had tried to initiate, but something had stopped me. I told her that it wouldn't be right until the situation with Amber was resolved. She seemed to accept that, and I convinced myself that it was all that was holding me back.
I looked at her standing there singing happily to herself, wearing nothing but a red lace thong and one of my t-shirts. She looked so f*****g sexy that part of me wanted to throw her onto the kitchen table and f**k her until she begged for mercy. I couldn't though. For some reason every time that I took a step towards her my erection got softer, until I was compleatley flacid. What the f**k! I didn't understand what had just happened. It must be the stress that Amber has caused me, I reasoned. No matter, I would soon be back from rejecting her, and then nothing would stop me from finally giving in to my hunger for Paige.
"Good morning, my love. I have made you breakfast," she said happily. Her face changed, though, as her eyes landed on the bag at my feet. "Are you going somewhere?" she asked. I explained where I was going and why. She looked pleased. "Let me get dressed, and I will come with you," she offered. "I think that it would be better if you stay here," I told her. Her face fell. "Why?" she asked. "I am going to reject Amber and strip her of her title. This will be hard enough for her without seeing us together. As angry as I am at her right now, I don't want to rub her nose in it," I explained. Paige pouted slightly. "Well, if she's going to live in this pack, then she is going to have to get used to seeing us together," she said. I sighed. "Yes, but not while she is going through the pain of rejection," I told her. She still seemed unhappy that I was leaving her behind but accepted my reasoning. "Besides, you will need to learn the ropes of being a Luna," I added. This perked her up, and she was smiling again as I left.
I got into my car and headed for the exit. I had already mindlinked Joe to tell him that I was going. I pulled over and mindlinked him again to explain that Paige was unhappy that I was leaving and that I needed her to be shown the ropes as a distraction while I was gone. I suggested having Amber's grandmother take care of it. She had been a Luna, after all. Once that was done, I began my journey to the Moon River pack. I wondered if I should have brought someone with me, perhaps Becky. The rejection wasn't just going to be painful for Amber. It was going to knock me on my arse too. It would probably be worse for me, given that I was a beta by blood while she was an Alpha. I was going to want to get the f**k out of there once it was done, and would be in no fit state to drive myself home.
I was about to reach out to my sister and ask her to join me. But, then I had a much better idea. I would call Council Member Perry to meet me there instead. Not only could he see me safely home, but he would make a fantastic witness to the rejection and to Amber relinquishing her claim on the Lakeside pack. That way, my position would not be challenged. I congratulated myself on my brilliant idea and pulled over again to call him.
