Jessica POV The lawyer had a lot to go over and sign. One clause they added was that of Douglas, and that he could not have any of the estate. It was not because they didn't trust him—after all, they did, and they knew he was wealthy in his own right. It was so no one could use him to get what was mine, meaning he can't be blackmailed or coerced in any way to try and take any. It also means I can't sign anything over to him; that is part of the old estate. We can do anything we like, with new developments and joint ventures, but he can't touch existing properties and investments or have anyone try to make him do something, thinking he is protecting me.
