AMYLA AYDIN

Chapter 7 Adorning a yawn on her tender lips and contorting her muscles in a stretch to exceed her flexibility, Amyla groaned. "I don't understand the logic of studying biochemistry when we have to perform surgery and cure illnesses!"  Wide black eyes stare at her like she is the dumbest person in the world but that statement was not completely false either. "If you hate these subjects so much, why did you choose to become a doctor in the first place, Amyla!" Her best friend of ten years Dani Hamilton said, lifting her brows. "So that I could prove to my parents that I am not dumb and irresponsible as they see me!"  She replied, closing her book and leaning back in her chair, her white coat touching the floor. They both were currently in their university cafeteria after taking their sixth lecture of the day and still two more were to go. Sure being a doctor wasn't a child's play but Amyla Aydin was determined to become a doctor despite her overwhelming world of fantasies and clumsiness. "Stop sulking, let's eat something. What about a cheeseburger?"  She suggested eyeing the menu of the day. "You know Dani, I won't eat it. I am already too fat to eat such things!" Her eyes came back staring back at her friend who smacked her assignment on the table. Gaining the attention of a few people but one look from her and they scurried back to whatever they were doing. That's Dani Hamilton for you. Strong, bold, confident not to forget the hourglass figure she had that made every guy drool over her. Completely opposite to Amyla's shy, timid, uncertain and chubby personality. Everyone in school called her the goody-two-shoes though she was always an above-average student who was clumsy and dumb according to her father. But despite their contradicting situations, they both were like two peas in a pod. Dani was her knight in shining armour whenever she felt low or worst. "For God's sake Amyla, will you stop belittling yourself. First, you are not dumb, secondly, you are not clumsy. Okay maybe a little that doesn't matter and thirdly you are not fattish just chubby and a bit curvy!" Dani rushed out in one go. Amyla rolled her eyes, her statement barely made a difference. "Easy for you to say. You have that hourglass figure and boys all around you. While look at me, a chubby girl who lives in her dorm comes out, studies and sorry it's not studying, struggling because my mind goes blank in stressful situations. Then because of my clumsiness, I break one or more things in the laboratory, get scolded by an assistant and then my father who has to pay for the damage!"  Amyla stated disappointingly. An awkward silence wrapped around them, Dani began to sip on her drink knowing that her whole statement was true.  "You have instilled such things in your mindset Amyla. If that was the truth why would the most dashing and successful senior of ours pin on you!" Dani decided to change the topic, wriggling her brows with a smirk. Amyla opened her mouth to protest when her gaze fell on a certain pair of brown eyes of a handsome man who was her crush since the day she stepped into this university, Riel Riordan. The final year dashing and aspiring student who was soon going to graduate and start his practice.  He walked into the cafeteria looking as handsome as ever in his black jeans and Burgundy shirt shrugged with his white coat and a stethoscope. "Amyla" Out of surprise, she gazed at her friend slightly embarrassed of ogling Riel in front of her which wasn't new anyway. "What!" She huffed squaring her shoulders sitting straight just as her father had taught her. "You were going to say something!" Dani smirked twirling the straw of her juice. "Wipe that smir….." "Amyla," A soft voice perked her ears as she looked around to see Riel standing near her chair gazing down at her with a smile. A smile that never failed to make her blush, the affectionate gazes of him that lingered on her whenever he thought she wasn't noticing but she did. "Hey!" She mumbled standing up from her seat abruptly causing the glass of juice to splash on her white coat painting it orange.  "Here we go," Dani sighed looking for napkins around. "Here take this, " Reil spoke chuckling, offering her his handkerchief. "Thank you!" She replied taking the handkerchief and wiling the stain wanting the world to cover her from this embarrassment. Though embarrassed this incident also made her remember the first time she bumped into Riel. Buying a cup of tea and walking ahead, without paying she bumped into him and splashed the whole cup of tea on his shoes.  Instead of being angry like she had expected him, he very gently said to her that it was okay and from then the stolen gazes and shy glances started. His excuses to follow and sit beside her in the library, walk in to have a cup of coffee with her when she was in the cafeteria. "No need to be embarrassed, what's Amyla without doing such things!" He chuckled it wasn't a mocking one rather a smooth friendly one. Why out of everyone Riel Riordan had to witness her like this every time. Amyla playfully rolled her eyes,  "I hope you aren't insulting me!" She muttered now staring at him, the deep blush covering her cheeks. "Do you think I can do that to someone as cute as you!" Amyla's voice seemed to clog in her throat at the compliment. "I brought you these!" He said extending his hand as Amyla watched in surprise. There were a pair of fresh daisies in his palm. Amyla nervously took it from his palm, feeling his skin brush against her for a second. His smouldering gaze melting her heart. "Th…" "Now don't start again with thank you, just keep blushing like that. It's enough for me" he complimented with a toe-curling smile as Amyla felt the need to stop the time and watch his smile all while. "They are lovely,"  Amyla whispered taking in their fragrances oblivious to the jealous stares of some girls around. "I am glad you like them. Well, I have an assignment to submit, will see you later!" Riel said smiling for one last time before he was gone. Leaving Amyla with her fantasies or so she thought because a certain coughing sound broke her cord of thoughts. "Ahem Ahem!"  Amyla glanced sideways only to see Dani having a sadistic grin plastered on her face that said girl you are screwed. "W-we have a class, Dani, let's go!" Amyla hurriedly finds an excuse, grabbing her things and dashing out of there, knowing that Dani was going to start with all her girly and adult-rated talks which she was in no mood to listen. Her feelings were still a mess. "Amyla Aydin, you aren't getting off this!" Dani's loud voice from behind could be heard making her chuckle as she walked towards her anatomy class.
