Finally, the boot was coming off. It felt like I’d been hobbling around on that damn thing forever. But the x-rays showed my ankle had healed cleanly, and I was finally free to put on my normal shoes on both feet.
The accident, and the recovery, had been a terrifying and humbling experience for a man who was used to being physically fit, active and strong. I was itching to get back to work at my full capacity. I had three horses coming back for training, cows and steers that needed moving through the grazing rotation, and fields to manage. Not to mention the sheep, pigs and chicken tractors.
And a beautiful woman to come home to every night. And a baby girl on the way.
