A warning for the family

2233 Words
Damon turned to his grandfather, his eyes wide and dark. But William looked no different. Even in his old age, he looked like he was out for the kill, he looked like he was ready to end him, he looked like a tyrant from the days back. The one who ruled with guns and swords till everyone mellowed to him and he built his empire. He looked like he always looked when he was faced with an enemy. “You have to be joking,” Damon said coldly and turned to his mother. She had an angry look as well but it was not directed at Damon. With that look came worry, for she knew what next for the three men that were in her life and she would prefer that nothing of that sort happen or move to such an extent. Damon flashed her a smile that said it was going to be fine and placed a hand on the side of her shoulder as he rubbed on it. “Do I look like a comedian to you?” William snapped and Damon chuckled darkly. He turned back to his grandfather, returned his hand to his pocket and matched his gaze with just as much intensity. “You sure look like one tonight, grandfather,” he responded. “Alright boys,” Flossie stepped in between the both of them instantly, her back to Williams and her face to Damon. She gave him a warning look and he flashed her a glare of challenge. “Take your barking inside the house,” she added and sighed heavily. Damon relaxed for a bit and berated himself for a little while before he turned to his grandfather again, his strong look remained the same as he walked back into the house. Flossie intertwined her arm with that of her son and together, they both walked into the house. The atmosphere was tense, more than usual and awfully quiet. Damon could see the future already and how it would go from there and he was already ready to fight it. Don’t get him wrong, he loved his family, his grandfather, father and mother meant everything to him. Their names, their life, their company he would protect with his life. He would want to make them proud no matter what and keep them happy. He respected them and loved them too much to want to hurt them, but with the look his grandfather had given him just outside and with the way his father stared at him from where he stood at the sitting room, he knew that it was about to be one of the rare fights that ever happened. “You and your little red hair have crossed some boundaries Damon,” Ethan started the moment he was close enough. “He was almost killed today,” his mom snapped in reply. “Snipers were everywhere and they all wanted our son dead. You could at least ask him how he is doing,” she added and gave her husband a nasty glare. He glared back at her hating that she was even present at that particular time when the men needed to talk. She did not back down from his threatening glare, neither did she quiver at the warning look William gave her from the chair he had sat on. She remained her ground, held her son tighter and glared at his father even more. Ethan sighed and forcefully looked away from her, seeing that he could not win. None of the Roxwell men could ever win against Flossie. She was the only woman in the family but she had the same hold her mother-in-law held. She could not control them entirely, but she knew how to stamp her feet when she wanted peace, and peace they all wanted. They respected her as well, she had been through so much for all of them and with that, they listened to her when she began her dramatic flair. “Fine,” Ethan grumbled and turned back to his son. He had been so angry when the news came out that he had not, for a second, thought about his well being. That reminder made a little bit of guilt strike his heart. “How are you?” his voice came softer and Damon smiled. He had always admired his mother for the way she handled those iron fisted men with an iron fist of her own. He was the only one she pampered and spare and he was really grateful for that. “In one piece, without a bullet hole in my body,” he responded and turned to a couch. He started towards it with his mother by his side and directed her to sit down, then he sat down as well. Ethan stared at the both of them and simply hated when they were standing together. “You can now sit, let’s talk this through as a family should,” she entered, seeing that he was the only one standing. He sighed and walked over to a chair as directed then he sat down. They all stared at each other without saying a thing. Flossie somehow had the atmosphere under her control and no one was ready to lash out on anyone, not with their darling wife, mother and daughter in law present. “I’m sorry,” Damon decided to begin, first seeing that it was his fault that they were in a mess. “I should have been more careful, I did not see the attack coming,” he continued and lowered his gaze. “Then Aziza came and over did it. she was so angry, she over stepped by burning them. But in her defence, I had asked her to get rid of the bodies,” “Stop defending her,” William came in coldly. “I’m simply stating what happened,” Damon replied and raised his gaze to meet him. “But I never meant to drag the name of my family down the drain. I never meant to bring in so much trouble,” he continued before his grandfather would turn his comment into something else. “We know all that,” William sighed heavily. “This isn’t on you, it’s on that red hair,” he added and it went quiet again. “She is nothing but bad luck and it’s high time she goes,” Ethan spoke up. “But she saved him,” Flossie entered “And ruined our name and image with it,” her husband snapped. “She didn’t mean to do that,” Damon mumbled. “Whatever she meant to do, I no longer care, I do not want to see that demon anywhere close to you from now on,” William stood up, ending the matter and giving no room for protest. Damon stood up as well, his heart refusing to just let her go. He had offended her already, and he was not going to do more. “I can’t do that, grandfather,” his voice came calm but with as much authority and everyone turned their eyes to him. “Yes, she did something wrong, but without her this name you so cherish would not be as clean as this. Because she was there at the court the other day to prove my innocence, not only that, she had been rescuing me from assassinations that even my guards cannot detect,” “Pay her off, there is no need to be grateful,” Ethan roared and stood up from where he sat as well. Flossie rolled her eyes, they were at it again. “Does she look like the kind of woman that wants money?” Damon roared back at him, hating the way they were only seeing her as a tool, an object they could easily toss aside. “And I won’t pay her off even if she was after money,” he added and took a deep breath. “That woman’s eyes have been on me ever since my return from comatose. I have grown up to have her around with me all the time and I would not toss her aside because she killed men after me in public,” he said more calmly. Guilt washed all over him at the thought of her, and the very thing that he had said to her face the last time. He was sure that she was not watching him that night, and he was sure that she might never again, but his heart was not ready to let go. He was not ready to let go of her even if it meant that he had to go against his family’s wishes for the first time. she was a part of him in ways no one else could understand. “I see you have been drawn to that demon already,” Ethan sighed and sat down. Damon’s ears perked up, it was the second time she was being called a demon. “How do you know that she is a demon?” he turned to the both of them. Their eyes went wide when they realised what had slipped out of their mouth, then they sighed. “I thought you believed she was an android,” his grandfather sat down. “With what I had seen, she is not and with what you said, you know what she is, so please,” “Father, grandfather,” he sat back down on the couch. “Enlighten me,” For a moment or two, it was quieter than it was when he stepped into the war zone of two lions. They were in thoughts, he could see the way their eyes were moving, he could see the wheel in their head moving and he could taste the nervousness in the air. “Is there something I should know?” Damon asked again and his mother sighed. “The myth concerning demons, werewolves, vampires, witches and even Lycans were not fake.” She started and he turned to her with wide eyes. “Long ago, they lived here on earth with us and we were all like one. Till they became dominant and wicked and we chased them out,” she summarised. “How do you know that?” he turned back to his father and grandfather for some confirmation. “Your grandfather is obsessed with them,” Flossie said within gritted teeth. “Our entire family is obsessed with the tale that was before we were even born.” Ethan added and it went quiet. “I might not be a believer on the outside but I did thorough research on this species, on them and we found out that they were real,” William added and it went quiet again Damon could only stare at each one of them as they spoke while his heart remained confused. He did not believe in that tale, all because his parents made sure that he did not. While they were fans from the inside. Why would they do that? “Is there something you are hiding from me?” he asked the multibillion-dollar question and they all snapped their eyes back to him. He could see it, it could be felt in the air, they were truly hiding something from him and their nervousness made him irked. “What is it? what are you hiding from me?” he asked this time with a lot more coldness and anger slowly rising from the depth of his heart. “Nothing.” Flossie entered and held his arm. He snapped his eyes to her angrily and snatched his hand away from her. Something told him this secret was big and just in her usual way, she was trying to cover it up with her motherly behaviour. “I can feel all the lies, tell me or I would ask Aziza myself,” “You would do no such thing,” William snapped. “The order was to stay away from her,” he got up again and Damon got up as well. “Tell me what you all are hiding from me?” he growled between gritted teeth and stared at him with just as much coldness. “Keep that woman away from you, son, or else…” he retorted and pointed his finger at him. Damon chuckled darkly, something that only a few people heard while the normal pain in his head slowly resurrected, then he turned to the door, seeing no need for the meeting. But stopped in his tracks as if realising something and turned back to his grandfather. He walked over to him and stopped in front of him, then he looked straight into his eyes. “If a hair on her goes missing, I will come for you myself,” his protective instincts kicked in as it had never done for anyone else and his voice vibrated the house coldly. Then he turned to the door again. “And I would surely not want to mourn the death of a family member.” He smiled, memories of her devilishly and cold blooded ways coming back to him, feeling his heart with pride and warmth. “She can be very feisty when angered, try not to anger her, will you? She won’t care whose blood she would spill for my sake.”
