“Wait…what? Why? So soon?” Russel could not help but feel that something was wrong.
“I might kill her before she gets a chance to run away,” Aziza replied coldly and turned her head back to the woman who laid still on the bed.
“Don’t…”
“What did you do?” Russel growled. He knew her like the back of his hand and knew that she had already done something stupid. He was concerned about the attention she was already getting. There was already too many news about her and she was still being wanted. Especially after the incidents at the hotel lobby.
They had said she attacked the cops and her crimes seemed to be getting bigger. She needed to lay low, but that demon seemed to not care about all this attention that she was getting. Not to add that, she was in his house. One wrong move and cops would surround the place he had been living for decades.
“Broken bones,”
“Only…” she said with a smile on her lips. Daciana deserved it and it might not be enough to pacify her anger and hurt and what the werewolf had made her do but it was something.
“Are you…”
“We need to get her home…it would be nice if she looks battered, so they would know she fought a good fight. Now get back here...” she ordered even before he could continue. Russel balled his hand into a fist and gnashed his teeth in annoyance and anger. She really did not care about anything, nothing and her reckless attitude was making him feel very uneasy and agitated. If only he did not love her.
He took a deep breath and shut his eyes tightly, then he exhaled. He turned his attention to Damon’s house and caught sight of him. He had changed into some pajamas and was out in his balcony, staring afar and around like he was searching for someone. Aziza.
“You need to get your vampire side. I can’t make her forget without damaging her forever.” He responded to Aziza while his eyes remained fixed on the man who looked like he was going crazy with the way he looked around.
“Do whatever you need to do.” She crossed her hand over her chest and turned to the broken plate on the floor that once contained the portion that was supposed to take away her torment. She walked over to it and bent down, before she gently started picking up the shattered pieces.
“No…no, you don’t understand…”
“You know absolutely nothing,” he growled.
“I’m not a witch,” she snapped at his angry tone.
“That’s because you refused to learn or master anything,” he sighed and ran his hand through his hair. Aziza was simply trying to end him before he got to live to the extent of the life he wanted. In just a few hours, she was already getting him so worked up, a heart attack should definitely not be surprised.
“Witch craft needs too much concentration. I don’t have time for concentration and would not have such time when claws try to claw my heart.” he rolled his eyes at that excuse and turned his attention to Damon again. He was no longer looking around but was instead on the phone. His eyes were hard and his jaw tightened, then he roared angrily into the phone. Even Russel who was far away flinched a bit at the rawness and power he felt from such distance. They both had anger issues, they were both too proud, they were too powerful, how could the gods be so blind to merge them into one?
He shook at the coldness that ran through his spine and thought of how powerful Damon would be if he got his demon side back. It would be hard to contain and the supreme heir would return. With Aziza by his side, it would be a disaster. She was something, a demon originally, a werewolf and has the blood lust of a vampire, and the very essence of a witch. What she was could not be named yet, he wasn’t even sure the oracles would know. She could bring the world down to her feet all by herself. And with such a powerful mate, such instability and power. He trembled and shook his head mightily.
“Russel…” Aziza growled into the phone, snapping him out of his trance in agitation.
“What is it?” he groaned, unable to keep being angry. He didn’t even have the strength to do that anymore.
“We need to send Daciana to her home.” She repeated her first statement with an edginess to her tone.
“If I use magic to wipe her memories, she would forget everything. Who she is, the super natural…”
“Isn’t that the point?” Aziza raised her brows and threw the shattered pieces of the plate out.
“She would forget how to shift, she would lose her connection with her wolf. She would forget her skills and would in fact be nothing but an empty shell. It’s better she is dead than to become a dummy. Such a life isn’t life, it isn’t living,” he explained with a bit of sadness creeping into his heart. What he was saying was similar to what would happen to Aziza if she lost her ability and purpose in life and he knew that. For a moment, there was silence for a while, it stretched and Aziza turned back to the room where Daciana still laid on the bed. She still remembered the girl who had walked over to her on that day in the field of orchids. Her long hair raven hair made Aziza love her. She knew the girl was attractive and had felt peace, joy, serenity for the first time with a stranger without them even speaking. She recalled Kane, the stupid mate she was bestowed to. She recalled how timid and calm Daciana was. In so many ways, she was a weakling, yet she had stood up to Aziza and had gotten her upset as well, yet she could not bring herself to kill her. She had indeed been of great help. No matter how she saw it, no matter how angry she was, this woman was her very first friend.
“What do I need to do?” she turned away from the door.
“You need to make her forget yourself?” Russel replied reluctantly. He was not sure it was going to work since Aziza would lose her abilities soon.
“I’m not a mind reader, Russel. Speak...” she snapped again. she was right at the edge and her patience was thinner than usual.
“You are a vampire…” he hated her and still loved her as well.
“Yes, so?” He rolled his eyes at her stupid question. He was really beginning to think that she was getting dumb with all the blood that she was spilling.
“They can wipe her memories with a thought, stupid. Mind compulsion”
“I will help and it would make it easier. She would definitely have nothing of us, but she would know her roots as the weeks go by,” he added.
“Good…...come over.” She ordered. He frowned instantly and balled his hand into a fist again.
“I’m not a child you can…”
“I will kill her if she doesn’t leave tonight…” she interrupted and hung up. His eyes grew wide at her threat and it only got him angrier. How could she threaten him? doesn’t she know the meaning of having a father figure? For a while longer he said nothing, and only stared into Damon’s house where he was still yelling angrily at someone. What am I supposed to do about him? he grumbled and thought of Daciana again. Aziza might not want to kill her but that woman’s threat was not one to be trifled with. He wouldn’t let her kill someone as innocent as her. He picked up his phone again and dialed Aziza.
“You are still not here…” she entered immediately and once again, his raging fire came alive. She was really bent on making him angry tonight. But she didn’t care, the urge to spill blood was greater than anything at that moment and being angry was the only way to vent and release a bit of steam.
“What about Damon?” he asked through gritted teeth. He really did not care about the boy that much, but he cared about Aziza’s mate and unfortunately, he had to be. He was trying so hard to make sure that she stays in the human world and be human and her mate was the supreme ruler of the supernatural realm? What irony?
“You are a wizard. Cast a spell on that house, no one leaves, no one goes in,” she instructed.
“That kind of spell would take all my strength. How am I supposed to send Daciana back if I don’t have the strength to…”
“You will draw from me,” she replied him with a yawn. She was really getting tired of the talking. He paused and could not help but wonder what had happened after they rescued Damon. She was acting edgier than usual, her tone was filled with so much anger and emotions and for the first time, she was taking such drastic decision. There were times Russel would want to perform some spells, and would want to draw energy from the most powerful person close to him. But she would refuse and would say she needed all the energy she had for Damon. He might be faced with danger and would always need to fight them off, there was no way she would give his enemies an edge over her. Countless times, she had repeated this statement and now she was simply leaving him caged in his house and was willing to let Russel draw energy from her. what happened?
“I’m waiting…” she ended the call when she noticed he wasn’t speaking anymore.
She sighed heavily when memories of earlier struck her again. The thought of Damon itself could cause her so much pain and it was all because of Daciana. She stiffened a growl and pushed back her demons as they rose their ugly heads again. She would be leaving soon, all she had to do was to concentrate and get in touch with her vampire side. Once she was gone, then she wouldn’t die from her hand at least. She could focus on Damon. She sighed and shut her eyes as another stray tear came running down her cheeks.
What was she thinking getting close to him? a miracle could not suddenly show up and ease her from her misery. She should have known better than to go to him, to be close enough, to love him. But she could neither help this feeling or take it away. It was her curse to bear with all the other curses she already had. She wiped her tears and forced a smile on her lips. Back to square one, watching him from a distance and never showing herself.
