Damon walked into his building like the boss he was and everyone instantly felt his very powerful presence. They all moved away from the elevator seeing that he was supposed to be the only one in the elevator. He stepped in, without caring about the others who stood by the side; neither did he take a few seconds to steal a glance there way.
Everyone of course was busy, and no one had the guts to actually lay back from work just because he was not at the office. The news of what he had done to his previous workers were still so fresh in their minds and those people were paying dearly for what they did. Companies who heard the news were all refusing to employ a lot of them because they believed that they would slack off just as they had done in their previous jobs.
“Good morning, sir,” they all chorused when he stepped into the room. It went quiet just immediately while he started towards his office without paying any form of attention to anyone except the sit right beside his office. He froze when he found Ivy’s seat empty and frowned deeply. Just like Charles had been hoping, his boss had seen that his assistant was absent and he was ready to make the move.
“Sir,” he walked up to him with a smile on his face.
“She might have probably gotten very tired of the job,” he added and turned to sit. It was well arranged and there was nothing to show that anyone had been seated there all morning.
“I always knew that she was no good for this company sir. She is bad news and it is probably best that she never returns, especially with that face of hers, we wouldn’t want the cops to keep coming in here to look for her.” He smiled at the thought of finally getting rid of her and gaining even more favour at the side of his boss.
“The moment I found out that she was not available, I had quickly taken note that we needed a new assistant. Someone who wouldn’t slack off just as she had done. I mean, for heaven’s sake, it’s noon already and she isn’t here.” He continued to blab on and turned to his office. A woman was seated there, nervously staring at him from time to time. From the glass, she saw him waving at her and found the back of Damon too. She swallowed hard and said a little prayer, before she forced herself up and pushed herself out of the office towards them.
“Here sir,” Charles turned to her proudly and with a smile for a job well done.
“Is the assistant that would suit your every need and would never let you down. She is one from the top schools and has a very good….”
“Have you tried calling Ivy?” Damon’s voice finally spoke up and it went deadly quiet. His voice sounded slightly different and had a very wicked and cold tone to it, it sent goosebumps all over everybody’s skin as they turned to Charles. They had been somewhat happy that Ivy never showed up just as he was because of their secret hate and jealousy over nothing. He swallowed the lump that suddenly appeared on his throat and took a step back from him.
“Sir…” he called out, weakly.
“Did you call her?” Damon asked again with his eyes fixed on her seat. Her very absence was bigger than every other person imagined, it was bigger than what he imagined to have felt when he walked in there to see that her very seat was empty. It rocked his very world and completely spoiled his day. She was the look alike of a woman very close to him, when he could not see that woman, he simply had to turn to the blondie and now she was nowhere to be found.
“I didn’t…see the need...t... o…” Damon slowly turned around and Charles flinched. His eyes were hard and darker with an intent to kill and his face was a hard line as he glared at him. The woman beside him took slow steps away from the both of them till she was at the elevator. Seeing that there was no need for her to be there and definitely would not like to face Damon’s wrath. She turned around silently, pushed on the button and walked inside the moment it opened up.
“My assistant didn’t come to work and you didn’t see the need to call her?” he repeated what he believed that he was going to say. His voice came out harsh and sent tremors through Charles' heart. He didn’t understand why his boss was so angry when it had always happened that way before. Once you miss a day without a call or any form of permission, you automatically lose your job. That was why he was so unafraid to have brought someone else in an instance. But seeing the deathly look in his eyes now, he realised that things had changed somewhat.
“We never call…. your assistance when they miss…a day without a prior notice,” he whispered and lowered his gaze. Damon was taken aback at the reminder of that and frowned at himself instantly. What was he doing? What was he thinking? And why was he reacting that way? He looked around and saw everyone staring at him in fear. He balled his hand into a fist and ran his hand over his hair, then he turned around and headed to his office. He was not sure who he was supposed to direct his anger at anymore. Was it himself who had taken keen interest into that woman, or both women or was it Aziza who seemed to be plaguing his thoughts?
“Call her, I want her back.” he growled none the less at Charles.
Back in jail
“Are you f*****g kidding me right now?” a familiar voice yelled from the canter right at the front desk of the station. The cop on duty glared at her while a slight pain slowly began to form in his head. She had been a whole lot of nuisances even more than the red hair they captured and he was getting tired of being nice.
Lots of voices have been going in and out, most yelled, most cried and others wailed. But Aziza paid no attention to any and simply sat at the bed with her head resting against the wall while her eyes remained shut. They were not really important to her, and were simply not her concern at all. Her very concern was how she was supposed to leave there without anyone knowing that she was the same woman who was wanted. She had thought about letting Russel get a lawyer, but that would take a long time of home arrest, court cases and more. She could not break out if she wanted to, because then they would know that she was truly the red hair and she would not want to call Damon. She sighed heavily at the thought of him and simply wondered what he was doing at that moment.
He had seen her helpless before, he had promised to protect her and even at that moment, as she replayed what had happened, she felt giddy inside. But she was not sure if she wanted to involve him. It was already getting very complicated and she would rather not want that to go on anymore. But, was she left with a choice?
“No, you can’t say that to me, detective. You can’t deny her a lawyer unless you have an ulterior motive and a hidden agenda.” the voice came again, this time, higher and angrier that it had interrupted her thoughts. She groaned and slowly jammed the back of her head against the wall.
“Careful there,” a familiar voice came to her and she opened her eyes. The cop was there again, and he still carried that smile on his face.
“Don’t you have something better to do,” she snapped at him. He had been coming to check on her every thirty minutes and she was beginning to find it very uncomfortable and irritating.
“I’m sorry,” he forced a smile.
“I just thought, you might have never been in jail before and might need help or something. Didn’t mean to….” She groaned inwardly before he completed that statement and realised that she should not have snapped at him.
“I shouldn’t have. It’s just frustrating to be within this wall and…I took it out on you,” she sighed and stood up from where she sat. She disliked the way she paid attention to his eyes and body, and look in general. And after his compliment earlier, she had thought it wise to stay away from him so as to not get really pissed and put him back on her kill list. But so far, he had been nothing short of sweet and really annoying. But then again, all humans were like that. Most at least.
“I understand,” he flashed her a smile and she stopped in her tracks. That smile always seemed to be too beautiful for a man to carry.
“The confines of these walls and me coming in here all the time might have set you on edge,” he said in understanding. She crossed her hand over her chest and gave him a quick nod of her head that made him chuckle.
“Okay, I will go find something useful to do then,” he said and brought out a key from his belt hold.
“Right after I take you to your visitor,” he added and her jaw dropped. Her cheeks heated up strangely and she thought of palming her face. He had not come to check on her this time but to take her to a visitor and yet she had been so mean.
“Well,” she shrugged, knowing that for a mean person like her, he had seen more of her sweet side than any other person had. Any other person who wasn’t Damon.
“Who is it?” she asked, not really expecting any visitor.
“A woman, a very feisty one.” He responded and pulled the bars open. She stepped out of it and thought of who it might be as he walked ahead of her towards the visiting room. They got to a door and he stopped and opened it, then he flashed her another smile and gestured for her to go in. She walked into the room and heard the door shut behind her when someone hugged her tightly from the back. The woman’s scent hit her quick and it was annoyingly familiar. Aziza had groaned inwardly.
“Sloan,” she called out bored and she took her hand off her.
“Those jerks would have really gotten it from me.” She retorted and walked over to a seat. Aziza stared at her, strangely. She had not expected anybody to come for her and of all the people in the world, definitely not Sloan. A man was standing beside her with a suitcase in his hand and he was properly dressed too. Seeing that she had made herself comfortable already, Aziza walked over to the seat opposite hers and sat down as well.
“Why didn’t you call me?” Sloan chided and crossed her hand over her chest.
“Why would I call you?” Aziza’s thought answered as she resisted the urge to roll her eyes and crossed her hand over her chest.
“I had to call one person and I called my uncle,” she responded instead.
“Well, why didn’t he come get you out of here?”
“He is not in the state,” she lied and an ‘Ohhhh’ escaped her mouth.
“Anyways,” Sloan entered and banged her hand against the table.
“I’m here and I won't let anything happen to you. Gosh, the guts of those bastards,” she hissed.
“How did you find me?” Aziza could not help but ask.
“I called you, you were unreachable and you had not been to the office. So, I went to your house to look for you and found Maddie, your very dark and cold roommate. How are you friends with her?”
“She is so dark with her dark nails, dark lipstick and piercing and you are like the opposite. It’s like light and darkness.” Sloan continued as she remembered the way Maddie had received her. Aziza smiled wickedly at that comment as she thought of herself.
“You can’t imagine,” she retorted.
“Well, she told me that you were here. She is outside though, too scared to come in because she said she was the one who betrayed you. I almost gave her a slap for doing that,” Sloan continued.
“I mean, how could she do that to a sweet person like you? Even I who do not live with you know you can’t be the red hair, talk more of her. Fortunately, you have friends like me so…”
“We are not friends,” she blurted out, interrupting the talkative. Sloan paused and turned her eyes to the woman who was sitting there. Once again, she was giving her the very opposite of her looks and she could not help but to grow suspicious.
“How did I know your house then?” She went on ahead, ignoring her statement.
“Because you are bored with your life and I don’t think you have any close friends,” she answered. Sloan paused and opened her mouth to speak, but no words could come out of her mouth because she knew that she was saying the truth.
“Okay, you caught me. But I like you a lot, that’s why I’m going through all this. So right now, you are my friend, take it or leave it and I’m getting you out of here,” she pouted and gestured to the man beside her. Aziza stared at her perplexed. She knew how she sounded and would have chased anyone away with her words, yet the dark beauty still remained and still went on to call her friend. Were humans that stupid? Stupidly sweet? No one had called her friend before, neither had she ever had anyone in her life. So, hearing a total stranger call her that and still stick with her in jail like that even with her coldness made her heart melt. She sighed and relaxed into her chair, not knowing how to react anymore. Everyone seemed to be getting into her heart these days and it was all because of Damon. Worry filled her heart and she suddenly grew very anxious. Not seeing him all morning was also beginning to get under her skin and she wondered how he was doing, especially without her around him. She frowned, and thought of how he would go around his business like she no longer existed and that did not settle well with her. She turned to Sloan and instantly decided on what to do.
Thinking about him was refreshing and annoying at the same time. And though she had never wanted to get him involved, she needed to get out of there to keep protecting him just as she had done for years already. It was either through him or through a very long line of jail time, bail and court cases with the lawyer Sloan brought with her.
“Tell Damon.” She said to the woman in front of her and her upturned eyes went slightly wide, then a smile appeared on her lips as she thought of Damon and Ivy together.
“It would cost you less, just tell him that I’m here,” she smiled and simply imagined his reaction when he found out that she was locked up. She could not help but think of how he overreacted the few times something bad almost happened to her and simply could not wait to see his reaction this time around.
