Being Ivy

1709 Words
The office went back to normal the moment Ivy left and everyone went back to their duties like nothing had happened earlier. Damon went straight to his office and William followed behind to have a talk with his grandson. Damon did not spare him a glance when he got inside and kept dialling away on his phone to get someone who could help the woman that was taken away from him. “What are you doing?” the question came from William. Yet Damon said absolutely nothing to him. He didn’t see a need to speak to him and was so angry to even begin to do that. “I asked you a question, boy,” William growled, hating this part of Damon even more. They have always fought, all the time. Truly, there was not a time, Damon did not have a fight with him or his father. He only seemed to be in a good mood when it came to his mother but with the men, he was always angry, and cold, always so stubborn and hard to handle, but it had become so worse, it was agitating to keep handling him that way. “Am I a boy?” Damon turned to him, giving him the attention he truly deserved when his call did not go through. His demons were still on the edge and they were as angry as ever, especially with his presence. “Don’t think that you are something because you suddenly grew up,” William yelled, unable to rein in his anger towards his grandson anymore. “I didn’t just grow up, grandfather,” Damon ignored his voice and anger and smirked at his direction. Then he started towards him till he stopped right in front of him, hovering above him with a stronger presence. He was taller than his grandfather, so he had to look down on him. “But we both know that I am not just a human,” he threatened coldly, his demons pushing at him to come out again. William resisted the strong urge to gulp and ignored the way his heart picked up at that statement, Instead he flashed him a glare that marched the one he was giving him. A part of him was still very scared of this boy especially when he remembered the first time Damon had ever killed. It was never with a gun, a knife or even an accident. He had torn her apart with his bare hands and he only returned to a bloody scene usually seen from a horror movie. “Don’t you dare…” he pushed out of his throat that went dry. The thought of having Damon become that boy again was definitely not what he wanted. He could not become that demon again. “We both know the truth, don’t deny it,” Damon turned to the back of his desk and drew out a drawer in search of his gun. When he found it, he put it at the back of his trouser and turned back to his grandfather. “That is something you should never have known, Damon. There are things that are bigger than you and…” “That’s why you killed doctor Morris.” His words came out harsher than anticipated but these were thoughts he had held for a while after that incident. The room grew silent and it only got him angrier at the thought of the poor doctor dying in his office. “You think I did that?” William asked, his voice still not losing the anger within. “You never wanted to tell me the truth. And I can remember that Morris was on a call with you when I had walked into his office. He had only just told me that I was not human when a gun pierced his skull. Who else would have done that?” Damon hated the thought in his head. He knew his grandfather to be a merciless fellow but he always thought that Morris was now like a family since he was the only doctor who took care of the people in their family. Except when they were out of the country. But things had happened so fast the previous day, the next thing he was under attack and Aziza had left him alone to fight. “And did I send those men to kill you too?” William asked and turned to sit down. He was no longer as strong as he was and his legs were beginning to kill him. His question to the accusation made Damon understand that he was not the one who had killed Morris and in as much as he hated that the doctor died, he was relieved for a bit. Moreover, no one knew about the attack on Damon because he made sure it was covered enough for no one to get a whiff of it. The only people who should have known were his guards and Aziza. “How did you…” “The moment you went in search of the truth, they were going to come after you,” William interrupted. “Who?” “The same people who made you a human.” He answered without waving and it made Damon pull his brows together. “You are officially a threat to them now and you would have been dead if not for that girl’s intervention. And you are only alive now because it was either you or her.” Damon shot him a hard gaze at his words and his demons rose again. “What do you mean?” “And who are they?” “You are now a threat to the humans just as Aziza and they would not condone such. Keep taking those drugs and Aziza would be taken. That way, you would be safe. She always liked protecting you that much, this is a small sacrifice to keep you safe, a sacrifice which she has to make,” he answered again. Damon shot out from his chair, ignoring everything else that William had said while only one thing registered in his mind. Aziza was in more danger as Ivy. He turned to the door, ignoring the man who was sitting in front of him and pushing back the demons that rose within. “Damon…” William got up as well and turned to him. “Nothing should happen to her, William,” Damon stopped in front of the door and held the knob. “If anything happens to either. Those people out there would be the least of the things you would have to fight and run from,” he growled and opened the door in a swift move. Charles ran to him immediately the door was open, ignoring the deadly look and aura that suddenly surrounded his boss. He didn’t even take notice of any of it, not when he was buried in so much work and demand. “Sir, the shareholders are blowing up a lot of steam. They want to start withdrawing their shares especially since stock recently had been decreasing for a very strange reason,” he stated and followed Damon and his guards towards the garage. “Buy out their shares if they want to pull out so much.” Damon simply responded. Only then did Charles stop and take notice of the man he was talking to. That was no longer Damon, not his voice, not the feeling that surrounded him. He needed no one to tell him to stop what he was doing to save his life. ********* Back at the central police station, the cars of cops rushed over and were quickly surrounded by fellow cops with guns and vests. They didn’t just surround a car, but the very one that Aziza was held in. Their eyes were alert, their hearts were pounding inside their chest and their movements were firm even when they were scared out of their mind. The thought of simply having the same red hair in their midst was so frightening. They had all been prepared to have the detective bring the look alike in just to draw attention, the very attention that would draw only the red hair. They had been preparing for her but no one knew that she was going to come in so soon. After the last time they took Ivy, they had all come to believe that she was just a look alike but the case seems to be different now since information had come to them that the look alike was actually the most wanted woman in the state. Aziza stared at the men who had surrounded her and grimaced at the loud and rapid beat of their hearts. They looked like the enemies about to devour her and she would have believed them if she wasn’t so unkillable and if the smell of their fear did not reek so much that it almost made her puke. Their new defence and weapons did not scare her though, she had more things to worry about. She was both Aziza and Ivy and letting the whole world see the truth was not so bad. She could care less, if only… Being Aziza was good, it had always been good. She only had to focus on Damon, but it was different now. She was not just Damon’s protector, but she was wanted by the cops and many more. Being Ivy helped her to be free, normal and be with Damon without having people look at her without the thought of killing her or sending her to jail. They could stare at her without thinking of a killer or calling the cops. No matter how much she ignored this feeling, it was one of the very few times that she could be with Damon. And now that he hated the real Aziza, she had to continue being Ivy. As selfish as it sounded, as stupid as it sounded from a woman who had stopped him from being close to her, she wanted him close and could only do that and have him when she was Ivy alone. She could definitely not give up being Ivy. She had to protect this identity.
