CHAPTER 16 TWO MEN, ON MARA'S POV Alexander walked up to us, his footsteps unhurried and calm. He kept his cold gaze on me and his expression was stoic–void of every emotion but curiosity. My nerves tensed as I thought of what to do. “Hold me," I whispered to Kurt as quietly as I could as I grabbed his arm. “Don't let go." “Hey," Kurt said with a playful chuckle, oblivious to the thick tension that had settled in the air. He allowed me to wrap his arm around my waist at first, but then his hold tightened as he pulled me close. “Mara, I didn't know you were–” “Kurt,” I whispered again without looking at me. “Please… play along.” He barely had time to frown when Alexander reached us.
