Chapter 7 Alexander's POV By the time Ruger parked outside La Bella, it was already 9:15 p.m. The whole evening had been a rush. I'd gotten home after leading an exhausting surgical operation, tossed my keys on the counter, and sank into the couch. This was 'just for a minute,' and next thing I knew, I was waking up to the dim light of dusk spilling through the blinds and the cursed time glaring back at me from my phone screen. 8:47 p.m!! Cursing under my breath, I tore off my shirt and hurried to get a clean one. No dinner, no shower worth the name–I barely managed to knot my tie in the staircase, all the while hoping that I wouldn't fail mother the one time she didn't trouble me about getting a wife.
