ALEXANDER'S POV
“Oh how's Mara?" my mother asked, ignoring my question. "How is she handling things over there at the hospital?”
There was a ting in her voice, as though she already knew the answer to her question. I didn't respond at first–just let silence sit between us until it finally got too uncomfortable for me to handle.
“I… I don't want to talk about her, mother,” I said as I sighed. I ran my fingers through my hair, my gaze traveling to my door. "I think it's best we… we leave that topic and focus on another. How's dad?"
“Oh, why don't you want to talk about her, Alexander?" my mother asked, paying no heed to my request. “I thought she was all you wanted to rant about. Why are you silent now?"
