By the time I opened my eyes again, I was lying on a sofa, in an unfamiliar room. Soft, warm light kissed the sides of my face, seeming to dance everywhere as my feet touched the floor again, and I looked around me.
There was no one. I was in what looked like an office. It had a massive space, with shelves neatly stacked with documents, a laptop and a tab on the desk.
‘Nia.’ I called for Kayla’s wolf. ‘What happened? Where are we?’
No answer. I saw her shrug through my mind’s eyes as she cockily turned her head away from me, crouched down to rest.
Who knocked me out? I tried to remember. Amara and Luna Malika had been there. I’d seen their expressions stiffen when they glanced at someone behind me, and before I could wonder what they saw, I had been struck.
