miss him

Bella POV My eyes fluttered open and I was greeted by partial darkness. I didn't need anyone to tell me that it was already evening. I actually slept through the whole afternoon? Was I really that tired from shopping? But just as the pack doctor said, my body was still recovering. I was still weak from the wolfsbane and being an omega, Luna was healing slowly. He even said it was a miracle that I wasn't dead, that he was still amazed by my resilience. I laid there for a moment listening to the distant voices and the occasional burst of laughter from somewhere below. In my former pack, I would be in the kitchen helping with preparing dinner for the pack members. Here, all I needed to do was rest and recover as per Asher's words. Sometimes, I tend to feel guilty that I am being taken care of without doing anything or helping around the pack house. For someone who grew up surrounded by chores all her life, I didn't know if I would ever be accustomed to this kind of life. Needing to do something before I descended to overthinking, I got up and splashed water on my face. I pulled on a hoody and headed outside. I was forbidden from helping with chores around the pack but I could still take a walk, right? I left the pack house and wandered deeper into the pack grounds. The evening atmosphere was cool with different flower scents floating in the air. I walked without direction, just moving until I came across Beta Leon. He nodded at a group of patrol guards who scattered quietly into the evening. My presence must have alerted him. He turned around and when he spotted me, a smile broke on his lips. "Bella, what are you doing here?” He asked, walking towards me. "Just walking around.” I replied. “I hope that is allowed.” I added. Leon chuckled, “of course you are allowed to walk around as long as you don't run away.” He replies with a grin. "I see you are adjusting properly." He said immediately, glancing at me sideways. "I heard from Kiara you two went shopping." "Yeah." I said. "She is a handful and insisted on it." He laughed. "That sounds exactly like her." "She is friendly." I noted. That's the best way to describe Kiara. "She is." Leon agreed. "And she likes you. Kiara doesn't warm up to just anybody despite how she comes across. When she decides she likes someone, that's it." He paused. "Consider yourself chosen." I said nothing but something about those words sat warmly in my heart. “ Mind if I join you?” Leon asked and I shook my head. “ I can use some company.” I replied. “ Yeah and I will be risking my head on a plate if the Alpha sees me.” Leon added, sighing dramatically. I didn't say anything. What was I supposed to say? We walked in silence for a moment until I decided to break the silence. "Can I ask you something?" I asked, turning to look at him. "If it's something I can answer, go ahead." Leon answered. "The rogues…how is the situation?" Leon was quiet for a moment as if he was contemplating his next words. "I don't know if it's my place to say this." He started then exhaled. "But the Alpha really wants to protect you." He declared. I waited for him to continue because I could feel that's not all he wanted to say. "Your former pack is still hunting you down." He revealed. “Or should I say, Luna Vivian wants you dead." I already knew Vivian was still after me. I had heard enough standing outside that office door. But hearing someone say it plainly was different. "She really won't stop." I said, looking away. I could feel my wolf let out a small growl of displeasure. After killing my mother, stealing my mate and accusing me, Vivian was still coming after me? What did she want? To push me to death because that's what she was doing by sending rogues after me? "She seemed determined to end your life." Leon revealed. He stopped walking and faced me. "But listen, the Alpha has already said you can stay here as long as you want. You can be part of this pack. In here, nobody will dare touch you." Leon said, his voice taking a serious edge. "I don't want to be anyone's burden." I said in a small voice. I was doing nothing but taking advantage of their kindness by staying here longer and enjoying their protection. The more kind they were to me, the more guilt I felt. "You are the Alpha's mate." Leon reminded me softly. "You can never be a burden. And even without that, this pack would welcome you. Nobody here will let anything happen to you Bella." Leon declared. I didn't say anything. What was I supposed to say? "Enjoy your walk." He said, already turning back toward the pack house. I watched him go as a complicated feeling settled inside me. Asher knew about Vivian sending rogues after me? Did he also know what I went through back at Blue moon pack? But that was not important. What I could not figure was why Vivian was hell-bent on eradicating me. Even after everything, even after she had taken everything from me and watched me walk out with nothing. It still was not enough for her. What was she so afraid of? I stood there a little longer. Then I turned and walked slowly back toward the pack house. It was already dinner time when I made it back to the pack house. I headed straight to the dining table. Leon and Kiara arrived shortly afterwards. “ Is my brother not coming for supper?” Kiara asked the question I was dying to ask but had no courage to. The food was already signed and there was no sign of Asher. “ You miss mate?” Luna stirred in my mind, the glee in her tone undeniable. “ Shut up Luna. Why would I miss him?” I countered yet my heart fluttered at the thought of those clear eyes that always looked at me like they could see past the façade I always wore. “ He has things to attend to so he can't join us.” Leon answered.
