The table was spread with all types of exotic foods I have ever seen. Foods I only got to see in the past but not taste.
Back at my former pack, I would prepare some of the meals for Hunter when I was in duty at the kitchen.
Omegas had a different diet compared to the rest of the pack members. Food to me was a luxury after my mom passed away.
I lost count of the number of nights I would sleep and wake up on an empty stomach.
Seeing the variety of dishes in front of me which appeared to be mouth watering and smelled delicious, my stomach grumbled loudly.
Everybody turned to look at me but I didn't hear the laughter I was expecting. Instead, Kiara glared at her brother while Asher looked at me with guilty filled eyes, making me confused why he would look at me as if he wronged me. Beta Leon on the other hand had a taunting smile on his face.
" Someone was behaving all possessive yet he can't remember to do the most basic thing to his mate." He said, a playful smile painting his lips as he looked straight at Asher’s face.
" Shut up!" The man growled, making me wonder if he was the same person I exchanged words with the previous day.
A maid had arrived earlier to inform me that the Alpha king demanded I join them for breakfast.
Of course, Kiara didn't come to my room to deliver breakfast.
At first, I thought about refusing.
He was the Alpha king after all and if I wanted to eventually leave this place, I had to minimize our contacts until the rogue issue was solved.
That was my initial plan until as biased as Luna, my wolf was, reminded me that I was being ungrateful.
After considering my words, actions and attitude ever since Asher brought me here, I realized she was right.
I didn't have to repay his kindness with rebellion.
Besides, I was hungry and needed something to fill my stomach.
That's how I found myself there.
With raised hands indicating surrender, Beta Leon smiled at the fuming Alpha king.
My heart raced, my face turning red from embarrassment.
What a perfect way to announce that I had arrived.
It didn't even spare me in front of Asher of all people.
" You are scaring Bella.” Kiara jabbed.
Will you stop with your growling? Someone might think you are chasing us from the dining table." She said, glaring at Asher.
" You can leave if you don't want to be here.” Asher countered with a look of impatience. Kiara just rolled her eyes at him.
“ I can do that but are you sure Bella will be comfortable to share a meal with you?” She threw back. The look on Asher’s face told me that he knew I wouldn't.
“ That's what I thought.” Kiara scoffed.
“ Then behave like a good host and feed her hungry stomach." Kiara jabbed, her nonchalant behaviour towards her surprising me.
She was his sister after all and the princess of this kingdom, so I figured out that Asher would do nothing for her reprimanding him.
From what I had observed since my arrival, the relationship between the two was really good and I could help but feel jealous of Samantha.
She gets to have a brother who loves her while I on the other hand got rejected by the only person who was supposed to love me to the end of the world.
I thought I had gotten over the pain of having Hunter choose Vivian over me.
I thought all the pain they had caused me was gone, but seeing such love exist between the two siblings made me remember what I had lost.
My mother died because of my carelessness.
And my mate? Let's not even talk about him.
" Here." I turned to see Asher serving me with a bowl of Vegetable porridge.
" Drink this first. It's good to eat a light meal first." He said,his concentration channelled to that one task.
I could not help but observe his hands carefully.
They were huge and all veined. I could see that they were strong,typical warrior hands.
He was the Alpha King after all so that's expected of him. Rumour has it that he can take down seven strong werewolves on his own in his wolf form.
Although I never witnessed it, just looking at him, I could tell that it was no rumour.
" You should eat some more, you are too skinny. My brother likes his women with a little flesh." Kiara commented, earning a chuckle from Beta Leon and a glare from his brother.
I could feel that Asher didn't appreciate her comment.
" What? I am just giving my dear Bella here some heads-up." Kiara defended, shrugging her shoulders nonchalantly.
" My dear princess, your advice is making your brother’s mate uncomfortable." Leo jabbed, still grinning.
I was starting to think that he's a creep with all those evil grins and smirks.
Ignoring the banter between Leon and Kiara like it had nothing to do with him, he turned to me.
" Eat some more or do you want me to feed you?" Asher offered, making me almost choke on my food.
Feed me? That's unnecessary and unheard of.
Although it sounded nice to be spoonfed, the last thing I wanted was to have Asher saying ' aaah' while probing me to open my mouth wider.
The thought of it is enough to send goosebumps all over my body.
" No need. I can manage." I replied, not daring to look at his face. One thing I realised with his eyes was that they had that hypnotic power. The power to make you want to be lost in them.
I didn't know if it's only me but that's how I felt every time I looked into his eyes.
Nobody said anything after my reply and I thanked the moon Goddess for that. At least I could get to eat my meal peacefully.
We ate in a comfortable silence with Kiara and Leon making occasional small talks.
Asher remained focused with his food but I did not miss the stolen glances he would throw at me every time he thought I was not watching.
I didn't say anything throughout. I mean, what was I supposed to say? Not only did Asher's presence make me uncomfortable, it was the first time I was sharing a meal with big shots.
Born and raised as an Omega, there were some things that were out of reach and one of them was sharing a meal with an Alpha.
After break fast, Leon and Asher left to attend to pack matters leaving only Kiara and I.
“ Do you have something planned today?” Kiara asked and I shook my head.
“ Then I will pick you later and we can go somewhere.” Kiara informed me.
I wanted to ask where but held back.
She walked to me and held my hand.
“ I'm sorry Bella but there is something that needs my attention. I am afraid I can't accompany you to your room.” She informed me.
“ It's okay. I can find my way back to my room.” I assured her.
She nodded before walking away.
After Kiara disappeared through the hallway, I closed my eyes and summoned Luna, my wolf.
“ Can you sense Asher?” I asked and she purred softly.
“ I can follow his scent.” She answered.
“ Okay do that. I have something to discuss with him.” I informed her.
Luna didn't press for answers as to why I wanted to see Asher.
After following her directions, I found myself standing outside what looked like his office.
I was about to knock when…
“ Why would Luna Vivian want Bella hunted down?
From what I know, that useless Alpha already crowned her as his mate. Why would she send rogues after Bella?”
