As I had suspected, the process of becoming licensed foster parents was long and complicated. There were background checks, finger printing, home inspections, and interviews to complete. However, the social worker was so happy to have new prospective parents that she was expediting everything. There were some concerns about my "celebrity status" but in the end they had no legitimate reason not to approve us.
During the interim, Annie was visiting the baby every day. She held her, and fed her her first bottle of formula. She took new photos every day and showed them to me with enthusiasm. I had to admit the little peanut was getting cuter and cuter as her tiny body filled out and her skin tone normalized, and she squinted at the camera with her blue eyes.
