I was about to explain everything to him when we heard a knock on his office door.
My eyes widened in alarm. Who could be interrupting us at a time like this? Without thinking, I snapped my fingers, using my magic to restore all of Xavier's scattered papers to their original places.
In less than a second, I found myself under Xavier's giant working table, hidden from view. I held my breath, waiting to see who was at the door.
"Scarlet?" I heard Xavier's confused voice.
"Sorry, I got startled," I whispered.
"Alright, then give me a second," he said, and I nodded even though he couldn't see me.
"Come in," Xavier called out, his voice calm and collected.
