Rose had been away for the day and had just returned home.
“Bella, thank the Goddess you’re alright,” Rose said, her voice trembling with relief. “I heard about the rogue attack—I was terrified when I found out. How the hell did that happen?" Her concern was genuine, her eyes full of worry.
Isabella told her everything that had happened, carefully leaving out the part about Killian and their unsettling closeness. The memory alone made her cheeks flush; he sometimes behaved so strangely that it left her confused.
“Thank the Goddess Killian arrived on time,” Rose said with a soft smile, pride for her brother clear in her eyes.
Isabella rolled her own eyes at that, biting back the retort on her tongue. As if she couldn’t fight for herself. But instead of arguing, she chose silence.
