The heavy front door of the packhouse swung open as Lucas, energized by Max’s potion, led Stuart and Katarina onto the porch. The rest of the small group—Margot, Max, and Letty—followed, watching as Candy pulled her vehicle to a final stop and killed the engine.
Candy looked utterly spent, dragging herself out from behind the steering wheel. She walked around the back of the car, her gaze sweeping the expectant, tense faces on the porch.
“Candy, did they give you any trouble?” Lucas asked.
“None whatsoever. Unbelievably,” Candy commented, leaning against the vehicle and running a hand through her hair.
