The constant, mechanical beeping gets me to open my eyes, peeling them open groggily.
My gaze falls onto Emma, who is holding the railing of my bed, smiling.
“Oh no, I died,” I groan, my voice coming out as a raspy moan.
She giggles, getting me to smile tired as well. “No, you didn’t, silly.”
‘She is funny. I like to mock you too,’ Aamon laughs in my head, getting Jax to growl.
‘Shut the f**k up and don’t disturb their conversation.’
“What happened?” I ask, now mastered in ignoring the two bickering creatures in my head.
She lowers her head, caressing my leg over the covers. “Well, Kai got my blood and lost his mind, kind of.”
I push myself up, but she holds her hands in front of her, signalling me to lay back down.
