The sight of the blue sky, the green of the trees and the bright sun shining down on me was the only thing I could see before water engulfed me, invading my lungs, and I was brought under yet again. My eyes blur from the sting of the water and my skin burns from the opened wounds. I don’t know how long I tumbled through the river like that, taken completely by the relentless current, gasping for breath and nearly drowning the entire time. Because no matter what I did, it feels like the river is intent on drowning me. The chains were heavy, and they pulled me down to the sharp rocky riverbed, slicing my skin open and slamming me hard against the hard stone.
