15. OLD HABITS DIE HARD

2093 Words
Logan couldn't understand what was happening. On the other hand, he knew he had to trust his mother and on the other, he wanted to believe every word that Axel told him. Even though he met the boy just yesterday, he knew he wouldn't just lie about something like that. He knew that the person Axel was talking about was him even though he had said it may be someone else. He has always wondered why he doesn't look like his mother or his father but when Clay was born, he stopped thinking about it because he knew that he at least looked like someone in his family. He has always thought his mother was hiding something big from him but he never took it seriously, he convinced himself that everyone has their secrets. You don't have to think hard about it though, I'm sure you just share a name and you're not the person that I'm looking for. I have been looking everywhere for the past few years and I finally decided to come here when I heard about a warrior prince whose name was the same as the one I was looking for. Logan Fairchild. Axel's words kept ringing in Logan's head and Logan didn't know what to believe. If Gail is not his real mother and he is not a Morgan, then how the hell did he look like Clayton? Clayton is the queen's son and he wouldn't look like Logan if they didn't have the same father. Or is Clayton not a Morgan too? If that's true then how did all this happen? He needed answers and just like Axel told him, the only person who has these answers is none other than his mother. He just didn't know if he has the courage to question her about something like this. If Axel was telling him lies, he wouldn't forgive himself for accusing his mother of something like this. Gail has always been a wonderful mother to him and he didn't want to ruin everything they have. They share an unbreakable bond. After walking around the kingdom for hours, he decided it was time he went back home. "I've been hearing people talking about your relationship with your brother. It seems the two of you don't really get along." Logan looked at Axel as he came from behind him. "I don't think my relationship with my brother is any of your concern." "Of course Your Highness. I'm just curious. I mean I saw you two together yesterday and you didn't look like people who don't get along." "I don't know why you're still here." Logan kept walking and Axel followed him. "Don't get me wrong Your Highness, like I said, I'm just curious. Is it true that he stabbed you the day before your wedding?" "Do you always talk so much? What happens between my brother and me is nobody's business and I would really appreciate it if you could stop asking me about it." "Of course Your Highness." He went silent for a while and kept following behind Logan like a bodyguard. "Do you really think your brother could be saved? I mean, he's not someone I would forgive if I were you." "But you are not. Remind me, why are you still talking again?" "You'll get used to it, I'm always talking. Sometimes even I want to stop but it's not easy as it looks." "Maybe you should try putting a tape on your mouth, it helps." Logan said, absentmindedly. "Believe me, I've tried everything." He was silent for a while again until he started talking again. "You know, I've heard people saying old habits die hard. I believe them." "Are we still talking about your inability to keep your mouth shut?" "We're talking about your brother. Kaden will never change, no matter how much you want him to. He's a lost course." "He's prince Kaden to you." "No, he's not. He's not my prince, you are and the only person I would call a prince is you." "You said it yourself that the king is not my father, that means I'm not a prince. If you want what you're saying to be believable then you have stick to one lie." "I didn't say you're not a prince though. The king of Mercy is not the only king in this world, Your Highness." "Meaning?" "You're not a prince of this kingdom but another kingdom, where I'm from." "Are you a prince there? You can't lead your people so you think I'll be able to help you, right? I hate to disappoint you but the only kingdom that needs my protection is Mercy, not some kingdom I know nothing about." "I'm not a prince and I never will be, but you are and I came here to take you back." Logan stopped walking and looked at him. "Take me back? Can you even hear yourself? Axel, I'm not a child, I'm older than you and I'm definitely stronger than you. Do you think I'll just let you take me with you? What do you take me for?" "I wouldn't dare try to take you against your will. I had no idea you didn't a thing about your real identity so I thought if I came and told you that your people need you then you would've decided to come with me right away." "An hour ago you told me that I shouldn't worry about what you said because I'm not the person you're looking for and now you're saying something else. I'm starting to wonder if you're okay." "I changed my mind, I don't even know why I said that because I'm certain you're the person I've been looking for all these years." Logan decided to keep quiet and stopped asking him questions. He decided to take Axel with him to Mercia so that his mother could prove that he was lying. That was the only way to stop Axel from following him. He didn't have to ask him to follow because he was already following him everywhere. Logan knew if his mother proved that the boy was lying then he wouldn't need to convince him to leave, he will go willingly. The walked in silence even though Logan saw that Axel wanted to say something all the way to his house but he didn't ask him what he wanted to say. "My love, why are you back early? I know you promised but I wasn't expecting you this early. I haven't even made lunch yet." Tiara asked her husband the moment they entered the house. "It's okay darlin', I'm not even hungry yet." "Okay, so why are you back early? And who's this? A friend of yours? I've never seen him before." "Your Highness, it's nice to meet you. I'm Axel Cooper and no, I'm not his friend." "It's been a while since I've heard someone addressing me as royalty. I'm Tiara Fairchild, it's nice to meet you too Axel. Forgive me for being rude but what are you doing here?" "Darlin', I'm the one who brought him here. Is mother here?" "No, she went to get a few things in town. She'll be back soon. Why are looking for her?" "It's nothing serious, just something Axel told me but I assure you, you don't need to worry. I'm sure it's just a misunderstanding." "Okay, if you say so." Tiara looked at her husband and then at Axel. As she looked at him, something crossed her face but she said nothing. "You can ask whatever you want to ask Your Highness, I'm happy to answer all your questions." "Are you by any chance related to my mother-in-law?" Logan looked at his wife and waited for Axel's answer. "Why do you ask Your Highness?" "Even though you're boy, the resemblance is there. Are you sure you're not Logan's long lost brother?" Axel chuckled. "I would love that to be true Your Highness but no, I'm not his brother but yes, I'm related to your mother-in-law, she's my aunt. She and my father are siblings." "Will you stop already! I told you that we need to verify your statement and until then, shut up." Logan didn't want to hear anything that came out of Axel's mouth. "My apologies Your Highness." Tiara wanted to know more but he didn't want to anger her husband so she kept quiet. She went to the kitchen and started preparing lunch, she could hear them arguing but she didn't do anything. She knew that Axel was telling the truth about Gail being his aunt because she saw the resemblance before he even confirmed it. His eyes are just like Gail's and so is his nose. He didn't look exactly like her but it was just easy to notice that they are related. Tiara didn't know if Logan could see that too or not, maybe he just didn't want to believe him even though the signs are in front of him. When she was almost done, Arianna joined her in the kitchen. Her belly bump even more bigger than it was in the morning. Tiara couldn't help but smile at her, her cousin, the one she didn't even know she had before coming to Mercy. Tiara never met her aunt but from all the pictures of her in the palace, she knew she was a very beautiful woman and Arianna looked exactly like her. Everything about her was her mother, she didn't even have anything from her father. She looked like her mother's twin sister or her clone. "I know I'm not going to be helping you but I thought I could come and see what you're making. Clay is not here yet and I would've stayed with Logan in the dining room but he has company." "It's okay, I was bored here anyway. Are you joining us for lunch?" "I am, you know I ate an hour ago but I'm hungry already. I swear to God this baby wants to turn me into a balloon." "How is he doing?" "He's kicking non-stop, just a few more days to go and I'll be free. I can't wait to hold him in my arms and to see Clay's face when he sees him for the first time. How is yours doing? Any kicking yet?" "He's fine I guess, he's not kicking though and I think he's lazy. I'm seeing a doctor tomorrow, I guess he's the one who will tell me when I can expect the baby to start kicking." They talked for a while until Tiara finished cooking. They set the table and Tiara went back to the dining room where Logan and Axel were still arguing. "I could hear your voices miles away." Clay said as he entered the house. "And who the hell are you?" He asked Axel as soon as he saw him. Axel looked at Clayton with surprise. He looked at Logan and then at Clayton. "Are you still standing your ground about what you said earlier?" Logan asked him when he saw that Axel realised they looked alike. "On the contrary, this gets even more interesting. How the hell did the two of you end up in the same kingdom?" "What is he talking about?" Clay asked his brother. "Axel here is convinced that my father is not my father and my mother is not my mother. He thinks I'm not a Morgan but a Fairchild. I told him he was insane but he wouldn't agree so I brought him here so that mom could tell him the truth." "What does that have to do with me? We're not from the same mother even though we look exactly the same. I think I agree with you, he's insane." Axel didn't seem to be offended, he was amused actually. "Dad won't believe this even if I tell him. This just made my job even easier." "What job?" Logan asked him. "I was assigned to look for you and your younger brother but I didn't expect to find you guys together." "What's going on? Why are you guys arguing?" All eyes turned to where Gail was. When she saw Axel, she froze and Logan knew right there whatever Axel told him was true but he decided to ask anyway. "Is it true? Is it true that I'm not your son?" Gail didn't say anything for a while, she just stood there and did nothing. "Mother? Is it true? Please tell me he's lying." "I'm sorry, I was going to tell you everything."
