The mine hadn’t been something Knox or I ever imagined. We’d only come to Colorado to find Piper, but when we were satisfied she was well and truly married to Spur and Lane, our job was done. Our need to be in Slate Springs was done. Returning to Kansas to work the family land with our three brothers wasn’t something either of us wanted. Frank was the farmer in the family.
