It felt as if years had passed in the time that I had left the house and now that we were entering it. The handle of the front door felt cold beneath my fingers, and for a brief moment, I thought I would collapse into the warm interior of the hallway. It didn’t matter how fast Matthew had tried to close the door, it still hadn’t been fast enough. As I allowed my eyes to scan across our surroundings, I came to realize that there were no lights on. Thankfully, due to my upbringing, my eyes adjusted to the darkness in record time. The moonlight that shone through the windows was minimal, but I had to admit that it still made a difference.
