“Are you sure that you’ll be alright on your own? I can take you home if you want me to.”
It took me a minute to realise that Matthew had spoken to me, and that he was waiting for me to answer him. I turned to look at him, knowing that my face was bound to show him that I had no idea what he had just said to me.
“Excuse me?”
“I asked you if you were sure that you’d be alright on your own.”
I started to nod my head, eager to put him at ease. I knew that he had his reasons to be worried, to be cautious about where he left me, but that didn’t mean that I wanted him to neglect his duties for the sake of it. The extent of the threat wasn’t as great as he made it seem.
