I didn’t know what to do, or how to act, but one thing that I did know, was that I would be able to survive. And perhaps that was wrong of me, for I was probably underestimating him, but for some reason, the fact that we seemed to be evenly matched, was a way of reassurance for me. I wanted nothing more than to laugh, than to shed a few tears of relief. But I kept it in, reminding myself that there were more things at stake. He was still just staring at me, his snout lifting into the air in an almost unnoticeable manner. I knew what was coming even before he did it, knew that in a matter of seconds, his entire pack would become aware of the fact that he had found me. And once that had happened, our pack would know too. We had predicted for this to happen—we had prepared for it too—but it
