“Alpha? I hope that you’re not asleep…”
I looked up, my eyesight slightly blurry from the fact that I was indeed, half asleep. I had been expecting to see another unwanted visitor standing in front of me with some other irrelevant topic to talk about, but instead, I found that I was finally looking up at the doctor who I had been waiting to hear from during the last few hours.
Oddly enough, I couldn’t remember that it was him—but perhaps I had been too focused on Blair to notice who the doctors and nurses were who had taken her to the operating room.
Once my brain and body finally registered that it was indeed him, I stood up without wasting a moment. I was slightly surprised when he took a cautious step backwards, keeping the distance between the two of us the same the entire time. Hi
