CHAPTER THIRTY FRIENDS AMBER’S POV “We need to talk,” I say, my arms folded tightly across my chest, every muscle in my body taut. Derek glances past me, briefly acknowledging Theo with a flick of his eyes. A twitch of amusement crosses his face, almost like he’s enjoying the discomfort. “Sure,” he says with a shrug, his voice as casual as ever. Too casual. I don’t wait for him to follow. I turn and start walking, my boots crunching against the gravel as I head toward the edge of the parking lot. I only stop once we’re far enough that no one can overhear; not that anyone in that school would follow us. When I turn around, Derek’s already leaning against a light post like this is some sort of casual hangout. I glare at him. “You were sitting with Theo.” His expression doesn’t change.
