His footsteps thundered against the polished floor. “Are you out of your damn mind? Do you actually think you’ll be able to take care of her, and a baby?” Samuel met his eyes without flinching. “Yes. I do.” “You’re barely standing on your own two feet! You can’t even keep a roof over your family!” “Marcus,” Steve said cautiously, “maybe let’s,…” “No!” Marcus snapped. “No maybe. No compromise. You want me to pretend this is normal? You think love is some magical solution to your poverty?” Eleanor folded her arms, her tone dry. “Jeez, thanks for the sermon, Reverend Green.” Marcus turned on her. “Don’t test me.”
