CHAPTER Ten “We came here…” “Keep quiet, I’ll do the talking” Marcus commanded, cutting off Eleanor mid speech. The room fell into a stunned hush. Esther blinked, her jaw slack. “Well, damn.” Martha shifted uncomfortably, glancing at Eleanor like she was bracing for impact. Eleanor didn’t move. Her brows arched slowly, as if she'd just been slapped and was calculating whether it was worth a war. “Did he just... ” “Ellie,” Samuel hissed behind her, his voice low and urgent. “Let it go. Please...” Her eyes were already narrowing, lashes like drawn swords. “Oh, no. That command? That tone? He thinks I’m a pet dog?” Martha leaned in, whispering desperately, “Please. We just got here. Don’t get us all kicked out in the first five minutes. Let’s just resolve the issue at hand.” Esther
