“I’ll hold them to it if I have to fly the children out of here, one by one.”
Penrys sputtered as she hiked back to her room with Najud after a long and irritating session with the senior council, kicking her long formal blue robe out of the way as she marched along. “I mean it,” she said, looking up into Najud’s face when there was no reply.
The smile he was struggling to contain set her off. “What’re you laughing at?”
“I’m laughing at the bear defending her temporary cubs, the one I was foolish enough to marry. Will it be safe in my bed tonight, do you think?”
She chuckled involuntarily. “Try it and find out.”
They reached their rooms, without Munraz’s help this time, and she stomped in. All seven of the remaining children were there as well as Daerget and Munraz.
