Zephyr's POV
"I think I am falling for you," I heard him say which made me pause before I burst out laughing.
Fuck. I just blew my cover.
He walked out on me with clenched fists and I didn't see him for three whole days.
Jordan stopped bringing the chess set.
"I think we need some distance," he said the next time he came. I noticed he didn't bring the chess st so I asked about it. "That night, I said I shouldn't have. I guess I got too...attached."
"Jordan..."
"No," he interrupted. "I'm your guard, that's all. I need to remember that."
He left my meals outside the door now and didn't come in. He stopped talking to me entirely.
The isolation was worse than it had been in the beginning because now I knew what I was missing. I had gotten used to our conversation, and now it was gone
