EXT. - 10th STREET ANIMAL RESCUE - EVENING The first thing Gerri noticed as she pulled up across from the shelter's front entrance was the dead streetlight, leaving the majority of the half block it was supposed to illuminate in heavy shadow. The faint glow from the bulb over the shelter door offered some brightness, but not enough for her to get a good look down the alley to see if the van was present. Which meant she'd have to get out and check. A fact that sent a shiver through her gut. Not for her own safety, not at all. But, because the two women in the car with her were, even now, unbuckling and reaching for their doors.
