(Jackson) I watched Avery disappear into her classroom, her shoulders tense like she was bracing for something. The way she moved through the halls reminded me of a deer ready to bolt at the first sign of danger. It bothered me more than I wanted to admit. "She's got you wrapped around her finger already," Luca said, appearing beside me with that smug grin of his. "Shut up," I muttered, but there wasn't any real heat behind it. He wasn't wrong, though I'd never give him the satisfaction of saying it out loud. Luca chuckled and headed toward his own class, leaving me standing in the hallway.
