(Avery) Three days passed faster than I expected. Before I knew it, it was Friday evening, the night of the society dinner party with my parents. Marissa came over after school to help me get ready. She was her usual cheerful self, humming quietly as she unpacked her makeup brushes and hair tools. “Tonight is important,” she said with a grin. “Your mom wants you to look perfect.” I sat in front of the mirror while she curled my hair.
