(Caleb) We stayed by the fountain for a little longer, just listening to the water. Its gentle gurgle was calming, and for a moment, I forgot everything else. The sunlight danced across the ripples, reflecting little bursts of gold onto her face. I turned to her, watching the way her eyes followed the water, the way her fingers twitched as if she wanted to touch it but wasn’t sure if she should. The soft breeze carried the scent of nearby flowers, and it made her hair sway slightly across her cheeks. I thought about reaching out to brush it back, but I didn’t.
