EPISODE 18

“MANHUNT”

FADE IN

COLD OPEN

INT. WAREHOUSE

ANGELS, DEMONS, AND UNDEAD FORCES storm inside of the WAREHOUSE as CHARLES, BENJAMIN, DREW, and LINTON come in the middle of it, armored and geared up as they push through the crowd as ANGELS and DEMONS have their GUNS and BLADES raised as CHARLES comes up beside BENJAMIN as they break through to the front, the TWO looking at each other as they look over towards JARED who was standing, arms in the air.

JARED

Gentlemen. I was wondering when you would get here.

BENJAMIN

What's this all about?

JARED

Isn't it obvious?

JARED looks about as he was being surrounded, JARED slowly going to his knees as he puts his arms behind his head.

JARED

I'm turning myself in.

BENJAMIN looks confused as CHARLES watches skeptically as a few men bind JARED as JARED just stares at them with a smirk.

FADE OUT

OPENING CREDITS

FADE IN

EXT. SYSTEM'S BUILDING

27 HOURS EARLIER

FORCES are mobilizing as PICTURES of JARED are passed out and uploaded into DATAPADS as BENJAMIN is moving units on a VIRTUAL BOARD that was set up in a TENT as the TRIO were finishing hooking up their equipment as DREW comes over near CHARLES, the two shaking hands as LINTON was talking DAVIEL.

BENJAMIN

Alright everyone, this is officially a go. We have three suspected locations, and we are putting all our resources into this. We have a huge net, and we're casting it out to every corner of each QUADRANT until we find this bastard, and get us some damn answers.

LINTON

I've got all my units beginning to set up roadblocks at various crossing points.

DREW

What are we going to do about the RECLAIMER UNITS?

BENJAMIN

I've got TERESA, DAVIEL and some of the others organizing a full work list, we'll have them busy in no time.

DREW

And what of this, head start we were promised?

JERRY

We're hoping whatever it is, it'll be something we catch on one of the extra-net video feeds.

MULCIBER

But that could always be a long shot, he could just be toying with us.

BENJAMIN

We are very aware, but we cannot let this opportunity pass.

CHARLES says nothing as BENJAMIN looks at him, BENJAMIN snapping his fingers at him as CHARLES gives him a look.

BENJAMIN

Are you going to be alright in this?

CHARLES

Why wouldn't I be?

BENJAMIN

You're close. They came to you and yours, been gunning after you. You may be too close...

CHARLES

Someone you know, or maybe, you yourself is helping them, and that's something I want to find out more than just...catching this guy.

BENJAMIN

You and me both.

DREW

Well, while we do that, CHARLES, a word.

DREW brings CHARLES over to the corner as BENJAMIN begins moving more of the virtual blimps around as DREW rubs his chin.

DREW

He's right you know, you and yours may be too close.

CHARLES

Me and mine can handle it.

DREW

Maybe. But I think that perhaps you should keep your guys occupied with other things. Take point, bring along maybe two, and let the others handle something else. In fact I've got just the thing.

CHARLES

DREW...

DREW

Look, just do this for me, okay.

CHARLES

Fine.

DREW

I've given the details to COLBY, he'll be waiting for the rest.

DREW nods towards the front and pats CHARLES on the shoulder before he heads off.

CHARLES turns and watches as his group, all together come over towards him, CHARLES meeting them halfway as AUSTIN looks the place over.

AUSTIN

Looks like they're actually taking this seriously.

CHARLES

Of course they would, they're all trying to cover each other's a*s.

NIKKI

So what's the play?

CHARLES

They don't want us all involved, says we're too close. I say f**k em, but we gotta play nice for the moment.

SHANE

So what? We do nothing?

CHARLES

No. You and NIKKI are with me.

AUSTIN

Boss...

CHARLES

NIKKI has connections to the UNDERWORLD and her black market arms dealers that could come into play, and whatever this is about, JARED has SHANE pegged, meaning we're more and likely to get more with SHANE around then not. Besides, COLBY has a mission given to him by DREW that he needs you on, and EMMA and ANTHONY are as good if not better back up then you deserve sometimes.

EMMA

Your two sweet, CHARLES.

CHARLES

I try love.

AUSTIN

You guys call me if anything comes up.

CHRISTIAN

I think we'll be okay.

CHRISTIAN comes strolling up as AUSTIN looks at him and sneers, CHARLES shaking his head as CHRISTIAN looks at EMMA who looks away from him as ANTHONY strong eyes him.

CHRISTIAN

I was going to tag along with you CHARLES, thought maybe I could help even a fight up against this guy, but I'm more intrigued with what this special side mission details. So if you don't mind, I'd like to offer my services to your crew.

CHARLES

Knock yourself out.

CHRISTIAN

Thank you sir.

AUSTIN turns and heads off as CHRISTIAN follows, EMMA and ANTHONY close behind as NIKKI and SHANE follow CHARLES into the TENT.

DREW shakes their hands as CHARLES comes over to the VIRTUAL PANEL, looking at BENJAMIN'S designs as LINTON comes over to NIKKI.

LINTON

NIKKI, I am glad you are here, I was wondering if...

NIKKI

You could borrow some of my off the books mod weapons?

LINTON

They proved to be rather useful when we were getting everything situated after the attack on the SYSTEM'S BUILDING, it would be nice to have that superior firepower in case we run into opposition.

NIKKI

For such a square, you really like bucking against the grain. I can spare ya a few dozen.

LINTON

That would be very helpful.

SHANE comes over to CHARLES as CHARLES studies the PANEL which has the FRINGE marked in the QUADRANTS.

SHANE

Why do they call it QUADRANTS? If they're six zones, wouldn't they be SEXTONS?

CHARLES

There were only four, but the FRINGE expanded as more souls came in, and more of us were choosing to stay during the TRIBUNALS.

SHANE

Why not change the zone names?

CHARLES

Just easier to call them QUADRANTS, I guess.

SHANE

Seems kinda weird, what with the SYSTEM being all by the book and uptight.

CHARLES

Not like we haven't seen them be at fault on more than one occasion.

SHANE

Can't argue with that there.

JERRY

We have a hit!

CHARLES rushes over along with LINTON, DAVIEL, and BENJAMIN as MULCIBER brings up an area, showing the camera feed as JERRY brings it up.

JERRY

This was a hit about six hours ago.

They watch the screen for a few moments outside of a PROCESSING PLANT, SHANE watching as JARED appears heading inside.

JERRY

If he left he didn't come out the same way.

BENJAMIN

Do we have an exact location?

GAVIEL

I'm sending them over to the VIRTUAL PANEL right now for mark up.

They come back over as BENJAMIN brings the area up, locking it in and expanding it as they watch the AREA come to in a HOLOGRAPHIC 3D PLANE.

BENJAMIN

It's QUADRANT C'S PROCESSING CENTER, off the corner of eighth.

LINTON

Do I need to send a full squadron?

BENJAMIN

Yes but not as a siege, by now he's either gone or hiding but the location is as good of a starting place as we can get, so let's set up a perimeter and a cut off from all major roads and back roads in and out of that QUADRANT. CHARLES, I want you and one of yours to go in and dig up what you can.

CHARLES

No problem.

DREW

NIKKI, do you happen to know this person?

DREW brings up a picture of BRANT, NIKKI nodding.

NIKKI

Yeah, we have history.

CHARLES

What's BRANT got to do with this?

DREW

This is the SYSTEM'S only real link to the inner workings of the UNDERWORLD, for nearly a century this guy has been off our radar, out of the grid, and uncatchable. And it's a safe bet that if he or any of his group has had dealings with the UNDERWORLD, he's the one guy we know who could have any information. We need you to bring him in.

NIKKI

Do we know where to find him?

DREW

We got a ping on him in a bar you guys are not as familiar with.

NIKKI

INFERNO. Great.

SHANE

Say HI to AZREAL for me.

NIKKI

Thanks for making that a more contentious place for me. I'm actually pretty welcomed there.

DREW

That's why we need you.

NIKKI

Okay, I'll go grab him.

CHARLES

NIKKI, you watch yourself.

NIKKI

It's just BRANT.

CHARLES

It's not BRANT I’m worried about. BRANT is only in the FRINGE for two things. Business and information gather and trading. Whoever he's here for may not like you taking him into custody.

NIKKI

I can handle myself.

DREW

She won't be alone. I'll be escorting her.

NIKKI

The last time you and I did this you got critically injured. Personally I don't want it to be my turn, or have a repeat.

DREW

Have some faith.

CHARLES

I'll say it again, watch your asses. SHANE, let's go.

BENJAMIN

We'll be watching y'all closely, you find anything, you get anything we'll be there to jump on it.

CHARLES

Understood.

BENJAMIN

Alright let's get this MANHUNT underway!

Everyone heads off to their respective locations as BENJAMIN watches everything with a steady eye.

INT. THE TAVERN

EMMA and ANTHONY walk in first as AJAX watches them, EMMA coming over to the BAR TOP as AUSTIN and CHRISTIAN come in, spotting COLBY as he was seated at a table, the TWO coming over and taking a seat as ANTHONY watches them carefully, EMMA conversing with AJAX as COLBY slides a FILE over, AUSTIN and CHRISTIAN both going for it but CHRISTIAN lets go of it as AUSTIN pulls it to him and opens it, scanning the files as CHRISTIAN looks to COLBY.

COLBY

Tagging along on this one, MR. DOYLE?

CHRISTIAN

I got the confirmation.

COLBY

Extra hands are always welcomed.

AUSTIN

So is this legit?

COLBY

Yes.

CHRISTIAN

What are we dealing with?

AUSTIN passes the FILE over as CHRISTIAN looks it over as COLBY begins to speak.

COLBY

With all the RECLAIMER forces being mobilized to join the FRINGE FORCES in this manhunt certain critical missions that the SYSTEM'S COUNCIL has been monitoring are falling to the wayside and we cannot afford for them to go bad. We thought maybe we had a day or so to keep this contained without incident, but one of them is forcing our hand.

CHRISTIAN

So this...COVEN...they've really got the power to do what they're being charged with?

COLBY

They've been extracting souls, but we do not know why. There were a few here, a few there, but ever since the SYSTEM went off thanks to the CODEX they've stepped up their numbers, and it's starting to become a problem.

AUSTIN

Who is she?

AUSTIN holds up a picture of a beautiful late twenties brunette.

COLBY

She's our informant.

AUSTIN

We have WITCH informants now?

COLBY

No. She was part of it, enjoying it even, but as the numbers rose, and she was seeing what the souls were doing to the other members, she grew hesitant. Scared.

CHRISTIAN

So we're what? Killing the COVEN, saving the girl?

COLBY

We need to know the root cause for why they're extracting the souls. And who they are selling the souls too.

AUSTIN

Another witch stealing souls. I'm getting really sick of that.

COLBY

It's a natural ability for them, but it's black magic that one hardly can come back from.

AUSTIN

Can we trust this...MELISSA JOSEPH?

COLBY

I do not know, I leave that to your better judgment, but she has been as helpful as she can be.

CHRISTIAN

If they're extracting souls, we need to stop them.

COLBY

Exactly. You have your mission.

CHRISTIAN closes the file and stands, AUSTIN looking at him as he heads out as AUSTIN turns to COLBY.

AUSTIN

You can't have me work with that guy, he's such a tool.

COLBY

He's the best.

AUSTIN

I'm better than him.

COLBY

You could be. If your head was always in it, if you really cared about getting things done. If you didn't leave your teammates high and dry...

AUSTIN

Okay, I get it, I've made mistakes.

COLBY

Mistakes he's never made, and I doubt he will make. If you can't trust the WITCH I won't be surprised if you have to take her down. But will you have to take her down because she leaves you know choice, or because you can't avoid collateral damage?

AUSTIN

The f**k are you going on about?

COLBY

You wanna hang with the big boys, here's your chance.

AUSTIN eyes COLBY and nods, standing as he motions towards ANTHONY, ANTHONY tapping EMMA on the shoulder and nods his head to the door, EMMA saying bye to AJAX as she follows the TWO out of the TAVERN.

INT. PROCESSING PLANT

CHARLES and SHANE come in as SHANE is overwhelmed by the smell as CHARLES waits for him for a second as SHANE gags and covers his nose.

SHANE

Dear god.

VOICE

(O.S.)

First time, eh? It gets even the strongest of stomachs at first.

CHARLES

CHARLES REID.

DON

DONOVAN BANKS, but people call me DON.

CHARLES

The somewhat sickly looking guy to my left is my RECLAIMER, SHANE.

DON

Pleasure.

CHARLES

Do you know why we're here?

DON

Yes, I was expecting you guys, especially after what happened.

CHARLES

Care to explain?

DON

Yes, come, this way.

CHARLES checks on SHANE as SHANE nods, the TWO following DON as SHANE looks about to see the large amounts of s*******r and dead carcasses being drained, gutted and cleaned through the PLANT.

SHANE looks at DON as his skin was tight and veiny, his eyes, a goldish color as his teeth were fanged but not sharp or jagged.

SHANE

Hope I'm not being rude, but I've never seen your kind before.

DON

Most people don't, we usually stick to the UNDERWORLD.

SHANE

What are you?

DON

I'm a ROOGARU.

SHANE

Never heard of you.

CHARLES

They're a creature that's...efficiency gets passed down.

DON

It's a gene, eventually as you mature you begin to develop a taste for...flesh. If you're strong willed, you can curve your appetite with pig and cow, though you have to consume large quantities. And if you're not strong willed...well.

SHANE

I think I get ya. So what is this place?

DON

It's a processing area, each QUADRANT has one.

CHARLES

When the SYSTEM allowed MONSTERS to stay above ground after the end of the OCCUPATION WAR, they knew they couldn't have all walks of monster life feeding and doing whatever to us, or even them, so they came up with the processing centers.

DON

We provide food and sustenance to all facets of life within the FRINGE. The food you eat, comes from us, the blood that VAMPIRES are registered to have, comes from here, we drain all the cows and pigs and mark them into the blood packs which we then send to the blood banks and hospital. For creatures like myself, and werewolves, things that require more flesh and meat, we process all the other animals here as well, cows, chickens, pigs.

SHANE

We have cows and chickens in the FRINGE?

CHARLES

Not quite.

DON

We take a couple dozen every few years, and we bring them back into the FRINGE. We then divide them amongst the other processing plants and we perfectly genetically clone them, mass produce thousands a day for consumption.

SHANE

That's...something.

DON

It is quite a sight.

CHARLES

There was an UNDEAD man here earlier. He looked like this.

CHARLES shows him a DATAPAD with JARED'S picture, DON nodding as he brings them through the back of the PLANT towards a STAIRCASE that led up into the OFFICE.

DON

Yes, he was here.

CHARLES

Why?

DON

He was looking for someone. An employee.

CHARLES

Any reason...

DON opens the door into the OFFICE and looks away as CHARLES and SHANE see a DEAD BODY laying on the ground, his skull beaten into pulp as SHANE looks away, CHARLES sneering as DON looks upset.

DON

He found him on the line and brought him into the OFFICE here. I don't know why it came to this, but...he beat him to death.

CHARLES

Did he say anything to you?

DON

After he was done, he gave me this.

DON hands CHARLES a CARD, CHARLES taking it as a NUMBER was written on it, CHARLES turning it over as he looks at it and reads the words “CALL ASAP” and with JARED'S signature.

DON

He told me I couldn't go straight to you, that he had people watching us, watching me, said you had to come here on your own before I could tell.

CHARLES

You did the right thing.

DON

JAIME here was a good man, I don't know what he did to deserve this, but...I know this isn't warranted.

CHARLES

Trust me, I know.

DON

Please. Catch him.

SHANE

We will.

DON

I'm sorry I can't be of more help, but after he gave me that, he took off towards the FIRE EXIT, last we saw or heard from him.

CHARLES

It's okay, we're setting up an area, we doubt he's still around but if he is, he won't get past us.

DON

That is good to hear.

CHARLES

Thank you for this, it's a big help.

DON

Of course. Good luck to you both, to you all.

DON heads off as SHANE marvels at the PROCESSING PLANT, CHARLES turning the card in his hands as CHARLES pushes his COMLINK in.

CHARLES

You guys get all that?

BENJAMIN

(O.S.)

The TRIO are running scans and searching the feeds for after the time he was there, but we've got nothing.

CHARLES

Not surprising.

BENJAMIN

(O.S.)

What are you thinking about doing with the number?

CHARLES

He'll know we'll try and trace it, so he won't be on for long.

BENJAMIN

(O.S.)

Still could get a temporary lock.

CHARLES

And we'd still be chasing his shadow.

LINTON

(O.S.)

He was obviously waiting for you guys to appear, meaning this is all still part of his plan, we need to throw him off of his game.

CHARLES

What are you suggesting?

SHANE crosses his arms as he listens carefully.

LINTON

(O.S.)

He has eyes on you, right? He said he did, used that fear on the PROCESSING PLANT DIRECTOR, let's take him for his word and say he does, if you don't call him right away, it could throw his plan off, because he'd expect you to throw yourself right into it.

BENJAMIN

(O.S.)

Leave him wanting and perhaps...

CHARLES

He comes or calls us. It could work.

BENJAMIN

(O.S.)

I know it may be hard, but do not call him right away, checking the area, look busy, look like your doing something but do not call him, I get the feeling he will get impatient, or perhaps try and set the things back on track on his terms, and in that moment we will get the advantage.

CHARLES

Alright. Sounds good.

CHARLES cuts BENJAMIN off and pushes his ear link again, CHARLES taking the CARD as he rips it in half, SHANE grabbing at it as CHARLES drops it, SHANE looking at him confused as CHARLES see's his shocked look.

CHARLES

We don't need it.

SHANE

Boss, we don't know that, this could also be exactly what he wants!

CHARLES

Then what are you suggesting? What do you want from me, what do you expect?!

SHANE

I've been thinking, boss. I've been thinking that we can avoid all of this. Let me join him.

CHARLES

No.

SHANE

CHARLES, just hear me out...

CHARLES

I said no, it's not going to happen this way.

SHANE

It's my decision.

CHARLES

I'll kill you myself if you betray me...betray us in that manner.

SHANE

It's not a betrayal. I'll get in, I'll know the location of the MISFITS base, I'll know everything they're planning, I'll gain his trust...

CHARLES

Where is this coming from?

SHANE

If he wanted to kill me, kill us, he's had more than one chance to do so. But he's not. I don't know why, but there's something about him, something I can still see. This guy was the greatest RECLAIMER there ever was, and something scared him, something forced him to turn his back on everything. A man like him, does not see himself as evil, he seems himself as a paladin, a savior. A protector, and if destroying is the only way to protect then so be it. These...OUTSIDERS, whatever they are, they have him thinking that destroying us, and all living things within the FRINGE is the way to save us, that kind of mentality, that way of thinking...can be saved.

CHARLES

You can't save someone like JARED MORTON...

SHANE

Maybe not, but I know if I get a chance, I may be able to make him see that there's another way, there's always another way.

CHARLES

So you'd join him? Help him commit some more terrorist acts, have him send more people to attack EMMA, or maybe NIKKI this time?

SHANE

I won't do that.

CHARLES

You won't have a choice! You think he's going to let you in without complete compliance? He will dominate you into submission, and all these chances, all these “talking to's' ' that you think you can do you won't have a chance, because you'll just be a drone.

SHANE

He won't do that with me.

CHARLES

How do you know!

SHANE

I don't.

CHARLES

And that's a chance we cannot take. I'm telling you SHANE, men like JARED MORTON, they are believers. You cannot shake a man of his principles, if he turned his back on everything he once stood for and has gone as far as he could. Men like him, cannot come back.

SHANE

I don't believe that. I guess that's the difference between you and me.

CHARLES

Yeah, I guess so. And that's why I'm the boss, and you're not.

SHANE

Trust me, CHARLES...I can get us everything we need if you just...trust me.

CHARLES

I can't trust you on this, I can't even trust myself, or any of the others, we have to play this the way we are doing it right now. Too many variables to deal with.

SHANE

Alright.

CHARLES

We need you SHANE, don't turn your back on us now.

SHANE

If I did, I wouldn't be turning my back.

CHARLES

I've heard this before...

SHANE

What?

CHARLES

Let's go.

CHARLES walks off back down the STAIRS towards the front as SHANE looks around and then back at CHARLES, SHANE nodding as he follows, looking at the torn apart card before he follows after CHARLES.

INT. INFERNO BAR

NIKKI and DREW come in to lots of eyes, most of them on NIKKI as NIKKI nods at a few, waving at one that holds a beer up as DREW is met with contentious and hated eyes.

DREW

How are you so popular with this crowd?

NIKKI

I've killed a fair share of most of their enemies...or friends. Depends mostly. But a lot of my deals help these guys, whether I know it or like it.

DREW

You never worry about getting caught?

NIKKI

With LINTON taking most of my stock for his own purposes, I think I'm okay for now.

DREW

Do you see him?

NIKKI

BRANT? Of course, he's over there.

NIKKI continues towards a back booth as BRANT is laughing with a few unsavory fellows as NIKKI whistles, BRANT looking at her as he suddenly stands and tries to run, NIKKI shaking her head as NIKKI chases after him and watches as he tries to go out the back door but slams into it instead as the DOOR didn't budge, BRANT falling hard onto his back as NIKKI looks down at him, shaking her head as BRANT smirks at her.

BRANT

If you ever wore a skirt NIKKI this would be an awesome spot from my point of view.

NIKKI

Why'd you run, BRANT?

BRANT

You kidding me, every time I run into you guys I get beat up and dragged about for no reason. I figure at least once I'd be able to get away.

NIKKI

This wasn't your finest moment.

BRANT

No, no it was not.

DREW

We need you to come with us, we believe you may have information critical in apprehending a fugitive.

BRANT

Uh...don't say that out loud...

DREW

Why?

NIKKI watches as DEMONS begin to stand up all around them, closing in on them as DREW looks about as well as NIKKI shakes her head.

BRANT

Because they don't know who you may be talking about, and being in my trade...It kinda goes with saying that...

NIKKI

Yeah, we're noticing.

DREW

This has nothing to concern with any of you, and should it...well...

A DEMON takes a swipe at DREW but DREW blocks and grabs his arm, pulling him around into a CLOTHESLINE as the other DEMONS watch on as DREW has done so effortlessly.

The DEMONS back down as DREW keeps his foot on the DEMONS neck, NIKKI helping BRANT up as she binds him and pushes him towards the front, walking him right pass the DEMONS as DREW looks the DEMONS over and lets the one he had clotheslined up, DREW walking pass him as he comes over to NIKKI.

NIKKI

Look at you old man, all badass and cool.

DREW

I still got it.

AZRAEL

NIKKI. Can a guy ever get a day of peace from your lot.

NIKKI looks over to AZRAEL as he was in his typical spot, surrounded by his women and posse.

NIKKI

Sorry, AZ. Things are a bit crazy as of right now.

AZRAEL

I've noticed. Anything I can help you with?

NIKKI

Maybe not right now. Be in touch though?

AZRAEL

Looking forward to it.

NIKKI pushes BRANT out of the door as she and DREW follow him out.

DREW

I take it there's something between you and the FALLEN ANGEL?

NIKKI

Business.

DREW

You hold a lot of secrets, don't you?

NIKKI gives DREW a look as they lead BRANT towards their car.

EXT. COVEN STRONGHOLD

CHRISTIAN and EMMA sat in the CAR as ANTHONY was standing on a corner, watching the STRONGHOLD as AUSTIN was in an adjacent building.

CHRISTIAN

Alright eyes peeled, we need to see one of these chicks for confirmation before we can make a move.

AUSTIN

(O.S.)

Do we have a move?

CHRISTIAN

Not at the moment.

EMMA

I already think this is a bad plan.

CHRISTIAN

We have to play it safe, these women are powerful beyond our comprehension. Especially if they are choosing to harness souls.

AUSTIN rubs his head as he watches the building but everything suddenly tunes out, AUSTIN grabbing his head as he looks to see the ROOM is suddenly becoming dark and Grey.

VOICE

(O.S.)

Do not be afraid, open your mind, let me in, and the sensation will stop.

AUSTIN tries to catch his breath, AUSTIN closing his eyes as he tries to relax, the sounds and ringing beginning to subside as he opens them to see a BEAUTIFUL WOMAN standing before him.

AUSTIN

Wait I know you...

MEL

MELISSA JOSEPH. People call me MEL.

AUSTIN

You're the WITCH helping us out.

MEL

I wish that was all I was doing. I'm merely trying to find a way out of this...madness.

AUSTIN

What's going on, why are we...

MEL

This is a ward I have placed on us, shielding us from anyone and everyone. For us minutes will be mere moments to the rest.

AUSTIN

Why me?

MEL

You were in the vicinity.

AUSTIN

Well, I guess that's flattering.

MEL

I wish I could give you news that may help you, but I cannot.

AUSTIN

Why is that?

MEL suddenly appears beside AUSTIN, and begins whispering an chanting into his ear AUSTIN'S EYES ROLLING into his skull as his nose begins to bleed, MEL stepping back before her body blinks and then she disappears, the area returning to normalcy as AUSTIN drops to his knee, breathing heavily as he wipes the blood from his nose, AUSTIN grabbing his head as he winces and looks about.

AUSTIN

EMMA

(O.S.)

AUSTIN

I think we have a problem.

EXT. OPERATIONS TENT

CHARLES and SHANE arrive as BENJAMIN comes over towards them, BENJAMIN nodding as he leads them towards the SYSTEMS BUILDING.

CHARLES

What's going on?

BENJAMIN

DREW and your RECLAIMER just brought BRANT in, we figured we'd let you and her talk to him, since there seems to be a history.

CHARLES

You're letting me take point on an offly lot, BEN. Must be hard for you.

BENJAMIN

I am not as petty as you wish for me to be, and believe it or not, when I wanted to become your OVERSEER, it was not out of spite, or malice, I truly believe in you.

CHARLES

BENJAMIN heads back towards the OPERATIONS TENT as CHARLES and SHANE head inside.

INT. SYSTEM'S BUILDING-SIXTEENTH FLOOR

TERESA stands outside a room as BRANT was sitting in there alone, TERESA turning as the GUARDS step aside allowing CHARLES and SHANE in as DREW and NIKKI were standing on opposite sides of TERESA.

TERESA

We've not asked or said anything to him, wanted to wait for you.

CHARLES

Is he in a mood to cooperate?

NIKKI

It's BRANT, he'll spill everything eventually.

CHARLES

Alright. Then let's test it, NIKKI with me.

CHARLES goes to the door as NIKKI follows him in, SHANE coming up next to TERESA as DREW crosses his arms, TERESA looking at SHANE as SHANE looks at her, the two not saying anything as they look back towards the DOUBLE SIDED GLASS.

CHARLES comes over to BRANT as NIKKI shuts the door.

The leader, the stocky blonde guy...

He comes in everyone now and then, never alone though, always has two people with him, two females. A ghoul, kinda brainy looking, and a vampire, older one, not affiliated with any family, none still around that is.

CHARLES

A female vampire...LYDIA?

BRANT

Yeah. How'd you know?

BRANT

Oh. Well, that's...something.

CHARLES

What would they do there?

BRANT

Recruiting mostly. They wouldn't make headway with any of the VAMPIRE or WEREWOLF clans, they have a pretty strict no negotiations stipulation on all family and clan members, though some as of late have been willing to deal.

NIKKI

How come?

BRANT

I told you a few months ago, there's a war going on down there.

NIKKI

That's right, between the old school vampires and these new age ones.

BRANT

The entire VAMPIRE COUNCIL against one VAMPIRE.

CHARLES

Doesn't sound like it'd be war.

BRANT

The COUNCIL doesn't have the strength in numbers like it used to, the days of vampire dominance are long past, the vampire leading the rebellion wants a united UNDERWORLD. His support from all the other species and clans makes him powerful.

CHARLES

What's he championing? Another swipe at the FRINGE?

BRANT

He could care less about this place, he just wants the UNDERWORLD to resemble some form of stability, balance. It's a lawless jungle, but he knows if things change, if old ways dies, what we could accomplish united is so much more.

CHARLES

You'd never been accepted, why are you so in awe with this vamp?

BRANT

I would be, CRUZ would open the UNDERWORLD to all who wish to live better, to help become better. It's not like here, under the thumb of an all powerful SENTIENT ETHEREAL SYSTEM. It would be a society, full of all kinds of creatures, making right for everyone. I'll support that to the end, I'll die for that.

CHARLES

CRUZ is his name?

BRANT

Yes.

CHARLES

Well I guess we'll have to keep an eye on this guy.

BRANT

Don't go against him, CHARLES. Please. He champions peace, but he is very seasoned in war and battle. He will not take kindly to interference. Or threats. As I conveyed to the SYSTEM the last time I was here.

CHARLES

If he's helping JARED, he won't have a choice in the matter.

BRANT

He's not. The help they're getting are from people too scared or craven to join either war party. They think by joining LYDIA and this group against a bunch of UNDEAD and what not, things will be easier than dealing with the fight at their doorstep.

NIKKI

Sounds about right.

BRANT

The only thing I can think of for sure, the last thing I remember hearing, is something about, an endgame.

CHARLES

Specifics?

BRANT

That was it, whatever they were planning, they were selling it as if it was about to come to head.

CHARLES

How long ago?

BRANT

Week, maybe two.

NIKKI

That's when they hit the SYSTEM.

CHARLES

Do the people in the UNDERWORLD understand that if they succeed, the UNDERWORLD gets wiped out too?

BRANT

It won't. That's the catch.

CHARLES

BRANT

When the OCCUPATION WAR ended, the SYSTEM sectioned off the area that is the UNDERWORLD, and placed it in another...alternate dimension, adjacent to this one, still connected but not entirely a part of it. Whether they succeed or not, everyone in the UNDERWORLD is assured that it won't affect them.

CHARLES

Idiots, all of them.

BRANT

Maybe, but they're inclined to believe in what they need to believe in.

CHARLES

INT. SYSTEM'S BUILDING-SIXTEENTH FLOOR

CHARLES comes over to TERESA as TERESA looks at him.

TERESA

I'm not sure we learned anything new.

CHARLES

We learned enough.

TERESA

CHARLES

The MISFITS are in the final ploy of whatever god awful plan they're up to.

TERESA

And that your ex wife is officially alive and working for them.

CHARLES

Is it true what BRANT said? If the FRINGE goes, does the UNDERWORLD carry on?

TERESA

It's entirely possible. But we are connected, and therefore In any likely event, us and them would be eradicated.

CHARLES

What I thought.

SHANE

So what do we do now?

CHARLES

We wait for JARED to come to us.

CHARLES heads back towards the ELEVATOR as NIKKI and SHANE give each other a look as TERESA and DREW look about, wondering what was next.

INT. AUSTIN'S CAR

AUSTIN looks the COVEN STRONGHOLD over as EMMA was still sitting upfront but with ANTHONY and AUSTIN now sitting in the back seat of AUSTIN'S CAR.

CHRISTIAN

You don't remember what she said?

AUSTIN

I don't know what she did to me, but she said something.

CHRISTIAN

Sounds like a memorex spell.

ANTHONY

Like a subconscious trigger word, or something?

CHRISTIAN

Exactly. Whatever she lodged in there, it'll come out eventually.

AUSTIN

CHRISTIAN

I never understood witches, like...how did they come to be?

CHRISTIAN

Magic. Magic here is pure, unfiltered, certain creatures had magic, told throughout the history of the worlds, and when people died and came here, their souls became in-tuned with the MAGIC around them, anyone, hell even you, me, if we wanted to we can tap into the magical properties that make up the world.

EMMA

But doesn't it always twist, turn people to the dark side?

AUSTIN

Most. But not all. Dark and Light magic in moderation, combined, those witches and warlocks usually have a pretty clear head, a good grasp on reality. But those who choose to dive deep into one or the other. They usually...go nuts.

EMMA

CHRISTIAN

Witchcraft is dangerous, learning the arts can be helpful if you're strong enough.

EMMA

CHRISTIAN

We don't know whose side she's on.

EMMA

How'd you know that we'd be dealing with Witches?

CHRISTIAN

AUSTIN

CHRISTIAN hands one to EMMA and tosses the other to ANTHONY.

CHRISTIAN

Any traps they'd have, won't register you or ANTHONY, you'd be able to slip in without being eviscerated or what not. That's where you come in.

EMMA

While they deal with you, we sucker punch?

CHRISTIAN

Only when you get the drop.

EMMA

ANTHONY and EMMA exit without a moment's hesitation as AUSTIN looks at CHRISTIAN stare each other down for a moment before they exit. The TWO heading towards the front of the COVEN STRONGHOLD as AUSTIN comes beside CHRISTIAN.

AUSTIN

CHRISTIAN

I'm starting to get that feeling from you.

AUSTIN

It's because I know you're hiding something. When I find out, I'll take you down.

CHRISTIAN

CHRISTIAN and AUSTIN both kick the DOUBLE DOORS in at the same time.

INT. COVEN STRONGHOLD

AUSTIN and CHRISTIAN step inside as they look about as the STRONGHOLD was lit with BLACK and REGULAR CANDLES, as HEX WARDS AND SYMBOLS were all over as an ALTAR was being worshiped by SIX WOMEN, covered in ROBES as a SWIRLING WHITE LIGHT was hovering over the ALTAR as CHRISTIAN and AUSTIN approach timidly.

COVEN LEADER

Why have you come?

CHRISTIAN

Like you don't know.

COVEN LEADER

These souls were in pain...we have freed them of their prisons. From their sin.

AUSTIN

This ends now.

COVEN LEADER

FOUR of the COVEN SISTER stand and throw their palms towards them, sending the TWO FLYING as they land against a far wall, pinned and unable to move as the SISTERS hold them at their will as the COVEN LEADER lowers her hood, revealing a young teenager as she comes over towards them.

AUSTIN

Offly young to be head of your own COVEN...

COVEN LEADER

I've lived lifetimes more then you have any regard to your life boy. Do not let my appearance fool you.

AUSTIN

Oh I'm not.

CHRISTIAN

If we were you, I'd let us go, turn yourselves in, avoid the bloodshed.

COVEN LEADER

We've got so much left to do, I don't think we'll be doing that.

CHRISTIAN

Absorbing souls? That's your big plan.

COVEN LEADER

Absorbing? My my where did you get such an idea? We're harvesting, preparing these souls for consumption for another.

AUSTIN

COVEN LEADER

Oh no, I've said too much as it is. Your being here does raise an interesting question. About how you knew about us in the first place?

CHRISTIAN

COVEN LEADER

The COVEN LEADER turns and throws her hand towards one of the COVEN SISTERS who didn't step forward and pin AUSTIN and CHRISTIAN, the TWO trying to break free as the SISTER screams and is lifted into the AIR, The COVEN LEADER closing her hand into a fist as the COVEN SISTER suddenly is torn apart into gory bits, her b****y and matter splattering all over the area as AUSTIN looks horrified as CHRISTIAN sneers.

COVEN LEADER

Sometimes, the ones who've betrayed your trust before, still don't learn their listen.

AUSTIN

You f*****g b***h I'll kill you for that...

COVEN LEADER

Was she someone to you? No, you don't look the type.

AUSTIN

I don't care what you think, you're still f*****g dead.

COVEN LEADER

Oh, and how do you plan on doing that when you have no tongue.

AUSTIN screams as suddenly his tongue is ripped from his mouth, AUSTIN screaming as blood pours out of his mouth as CHRISTIAN watches on horrified as the COVEN LEADER laughs, AUSTIN looking at her with angered eyes as the COVEN LEADER points at CHRISTIAN.

COVEN LEADER

Now...what should I take from you?

EMMA

How about we try something for you.

The COVEN LEADER turns as EMMA fires a point blank round into her FACE, the COVEN LEADER falling over as ANTHONY unloaded his PISTOL into the other SISTER who didn't pin AUSTIN or CHRISTIAN, watching her fall over as the SISTERS suddenly are thrown into disarray, CHRISTIAN and AUSTIN falling to the ground as CHRISTIAN lands and tackles a COVEN SISTER to the ground, ANTHONY and EMMA shooting another dead as AUSTIN bulls out a BLADE and runs up towards one stabbing her in the head through her hood as CHRISTIAN draws his PISTOL and puts it into the HOOD of the COVEN SISTER he tackled, shooting her a half a dozen times in the face. The LAST COVEN SISTER doesn't budge as EMMA aims at her, but as she does the COVEN LEADER suddenly arises, CHRISTIAN spotting her as he yells for EMMA.

EMMA turns as the COVEN LEADER throws her arm towards EMMA, EMMA freezing as ANTHONY turns too late as FIRE suddenly fires out from her PALM towards EMMA, EMMA not moving as AUSTIN goes to scream but can't.

As the FIRE reaches EMMA, the COVEN SISTER still alive appears beside EMMA, throwing her arms up as suddenly a GLIMMERING PURPLE AND GOLD SHIELD wraps around her and EMMA, the COVEN LEADER throwing her arms away and towards ANTHONY and CHRISTIN, sending them flying across the room as the COVEN SISTER keeps the SHIELD up around her and EMMA as EMMA watches her, the COVEN SISTER shaking her head as the HOOD falls backwards, revealing that it was MEL.

COVEN LEADER

MEL...so you're the traitorous b***h.

MEL

What you were doing...what we were doing...It's not what we're about.

COVEN LEADER

We serve a bigger purpose.

MEL

Like I said...not what we're about in the end.

COVEN LEADER

You're willing to die for these people? People who care nothing for you, people who are just going to brand you a monster, and lock you away anyways.

MEL

COVEN LEADER

MEL lowers the shield and tosses a hand towards AUSTIN, AUSTIN feeling his tongue restore as the COVEN LEADER sends a blast at MEL which MEL pushes EMMA out of the way of, MEL bracing for the impact as she closes her eyes, but AUSTIN steps forward, hand raised at the COVEN LEADER as he suddenly screams a few words in LATIN.

The BLAST never reaches MEL as it stops a few inches from her, MEL keeping her eyes closed as the BLAST suddenly fires backwards towards the COVEN LEADER, the COVEN LEADER unable to do anything as the LIGHT from the BEAM surrounds her, the COVEN LEADER screaming as CHRISTIAN comes to and watches as the COVEN LEADER'S BODY begins to disintegrate into nothing before dispersing into ashes, AUSTIN looking away as the final scream sends the light exploding outward but no harm befalls anyone as everyone looks around to see the situation was handled, MEL slowly opening her eyes as she lowers her top and watches as the BRANDED WARD on her chest burns away, MEL wincing but smiles in relief as AUSTIN comes over to her, EMMA looking at her in awe as MEL nods at AUSTIN.

MEL

Sorry about that, but I couldn't tell you.

AUSTIN

No, it's fine. Thank you. For that. And putting my tongue back into its natural place. And for saving EMMA.

MEL

MEL turns to EMMA as she looks her over.

MEL

You look okay, she didn't get you did she?

EMMA

CHRISTIAN

What was going on here?

MEL

A few months ago we started helping people, people who are ready to move on from this world, who were tired of waiting for tribunals, who weren't recovering from injuries they've sustained.

CHRISTIAN

So you were extracting their souls?

MEL

Yes, but we were sending them off.

AUSTIN

MEL

We don't know. Someone else. Neither here nor there.

ANTHONY

OBLIVION?

MEL

Yeah.

MEL

DARIA, our COVEN LEADER...she met someone, someone who talked her into thinking that this world was coming to an end, and that there were worse things to befall us should we not help. Whoever he was, he got into her head, got her into harnessing souls no matter who came to ask, no matter what reason. Their souls were being taken and we were...keeping them here.

MEL looks up towards the ALTAR, CHRISTIAN coming over towards it as AUSTIN looks at the SWIRLING WHITE LIGHT as ANTHONY rubs his head and comes over towards EMMA, MEL coming up beside AUSTIN as AUSTIN studies.

MEL

I don't know why we were keeping them here, but whoever wanted them, was wanting them soon.

AUSTIN

How many are...?

MEL

A few hundred at the least.

AUSTIN

This thing is radioactive, do you know what would happen if this thing...

MEL

That's why we were here, always here, keeping it in check.

AUSTIN

CHRISTIAN

I'll call the TRIO, have them send some specialists out here. AUSTIN, book her, take her back.

MEL

EMMA comes over and touches MEL on the arm.

MEL begins to head out as EMMA follows her out, AUSTIN eying her suspiciously as ANTHONY comes over to her.

ANTHONY

AUSTIN

I don't know. But she'll be alright.

ANTHONY

Why didn't you try and stop her?

AUSTIN

Partly because I trust her.

ANTHONY

AUSTIN looks over and eyes CHRISTIAN who was on his phone.

AUSTIN

ANTHONY looks at CHRISTIAN as CHRISTIAN hangs up, eying the SOULS before he turns to them, AUSTIN staring him down as CHRISTIAN smirks.

INT. OPERATIONS TENT

BENJAMIN listens as GAVIEL is speaking to him as CHARLES and DREW stand off to the side, NIKKI and SHANE conversing as CHARLES eyes them for a moment.

DREW

It's not a bad Idea you know.

CHARLES

What is?

DREW

Your guy there giving himself up.

CHARLES

Heard about that huh.

DREW

NIKKI told me about the offer. I know it's not something you're keen on, but the kid can handle himself from what I know.

CHARLES

It's not about handling, nor is about a lack of trust to be completely honest.

DREW

Why was I so scared then?

CHARLES

Whatever is going on, whatever these MISFITS are planning, they are fanatical in their reason. They believe some great evil or something is coming our way, and to plan mass destruction of the entire FRINGE. That's fanaticism unlike anything I've heard of. It took someone like JARED and turned him into what he is now...it took my wife from me...and turned her into someone I don't think I'll even recognize should I ever lay eyes on her. I'll be damned if I let this...paranoia, this thought get burned and drilled into SHANE'S head.

DREW

I see. You're afraid that if SHANE joins...he may start to come around to their way of thinking.

CHARLES

I couldn't handle losing him, like I lost my wife, I couldn't handle losing anyone to these psychos. And as long as I can help it. I won't.

DREW

There is a strength in your group, a strength I have never seen in a RECLAIMER unit. You all have your faults, god knows screw up enough.

CHARLES

DREW

But people believe in you, that is why you are here, that is why you and yours are involved. There is a bigger purpose for you UNEVENTFUL, we sense it. Don't you?

CHARLES

DREW

DREW and CHARLES hurry over as the everyone comes over towards the TRIO'S WORKING AREA, JERRY handing a phone to CHARLES that was linked up to a tracer as BENJAMIN nods at him, CHARLES answering.

CHARLES

Hello.

JARED

(O.S.)

You called my bluff. I am fairly impressed.

CHARLES

You sound more disappointed.

JARED

(O.S.)

I am to a degree. Tell the TRIO there is no need for a trace, I am forwarding my location to you now.

CHARLES

JARED

(O.S.)

CHARLES listens to the line go dead as GAVIEL brings a ping as an area begins to appear on screen, BENJAMIN beginning to shout orders and directions as DREW hurries off, CHARLES looking at everyone move so swiftly as he looks at NIKKI and SHANE with a confused look, BENJAMIN coming over to him as he motions for him to come along.

We CALL BACK to the COLD OPEN, re showing the FORCES surrounding the WAREHOUSE as JARED gives himself up.

EXT. WAREHOUSE

JARED is led out as he is bound, JARED walking between a dozen armed guards as JARED notices SHANE staring at him, JARED winking at him as SHANE looks uncomfortable as JARED is put into the back of a VEHICLE and quickly hauled off.

BENJAMIN and CHARLES come out as DAVIEL is directing the FORCES to keep the formation and rounding up a large escort convoy as BENJAMIN pushes his ear piece.

BENJAMIN

Lock the SYSTEM completely down, we cannot and will not take any chances with him.

CHARLES

Are you sure taking him there is a good idea? For all we know the MISFITS still have some sort of primary control over the SYSTEM OPERATING SYSTEMS?

MULCIBER

(O.S.)

We've been able to eradicate their hacker code that they were able to upload during the CODEX'S active period, as of now, we have complete and utter control of the OPERATING SYSTEMS within the FRINGE.

CHARLES

You're still forgetting that someone with top level access into the SYSTEM itself is working with JARED and the MISFITS.

BENJAMIN

CHARLES is right. DAVIEL, I want you to take JARED to the secondary containment center.

DAVIEL

(O.S.)

Sure about that?

BENJAMIN

Until we can figure out who is helping our friend there we cannot take the chance.

DAVIEL

(O.S.)

Diverting now.

CHARLES rubs his chin as BENJAMIN pushes his ear piece in.

BENJAMIN

I would like to say a job well done, but I'm getting the feeling something is amiss.

CHARLES

Something is very amiss.

BENJAMIN

What is he planning? Why give a four day time frame and then turn himself in within a day and a half?

SHANE

Nothing is simple with JARED, but everything is perfectly calculated. He wanted to get caught, but why.

BENJAMIN

That's what you are going to find out.

SHANE

BENJAMIN

He has an affinity for you in particular, and he did tell you that if we caught him he'd give you answers. Seems pretty cut and dry.

SHANE

Seems.

CHARLES

SHANE, I can take care of it if needed.

SHANE

BENJAMIN

Let's go then.

BENJAMIN heads off as CHARLES grabs SHANE by the arm as SHANE turns to go, CHARLES looking SHANE in the eyes as SHANE looks back confused.

CHARLES

This is what he wanted. He'll be expecting us to use you in the interrogation.

SHANE

And?

CHARLES

We're playing too much into whatever game he is setting up.

SHANE

It's the only thing we have right now, boss.

CHARLES

Maybe, but...

SHANE

I'll be fine boss.

SHANE breaks away as he goes towards NIKKI'S CAR, CHARLES looking unsure as he watches the madness continue around him.

INT. THE TAVERN

AUSTIN comes in as COLBY is sitting at the BAR, conversing with AJAX as CHRISTIAN was in a booth alone, AUSTIN looking between the TWO as he goes to COLBY first.

AUSTIN

COLBY.

COLBY

Mr. BLACK. Good work with the COVEN, unfortunate news about Ms. JOSEPH though, however I was assured that you were not at fault for her downfall.

AUSTIN

What are you talking about?

COLBY

EMMA filed the report for you guys, said Ms. JOSEPH was one of the first killed during the SIEGE, CHRISTIAN there verified the claim as well.

AUSTIN looks at CHRISTIAN then back to COLBY.

COLBY

So again. I am sorry, and I am relieved.

AUSTIN

Yeah, well.

COLBY

Everything alright?

AUSTIN

Yeah, I guess so.

COLBY

Drinks are on me tonight.

AUSTIN

Why so chipper?

COLBY

We caught him.

AUSTIN

Who? JARED?

COLBY

Yes, they're holding him right now, SHANE and CHARLES are going to lead the interrogation, and hopefully get something we can use to finally hit the MISFITS where it hurts.

AUSTIN

So you're celebrating?

COLBY

We've not had a win in quite some time. Even if it's a false win, or a little one, a win is a win.

AUSTIN

I guess.

COLBY

So drink up.

AUSTIN

COLBY

AUSTIN nods and heads over to CHRISTIAN'S BOOTH, CHRISTIAN looking at him as he motions for AUSTIN to sit, AUSTIN scooting in across from him as CHRISTIAN slides a glass over and fills it halfway with a bottle of whiskey.

CHRISTIAN

Your HANDLER is offly generous this evening.

AUSTIN

A win is a win he says.

CHRISTIAN

That it is.

AUSTIN

Why'd you cover for EMMA'S report, about MEL, you know it's false?

CHRISTIAN

I figure your gal pal had a reason to lie and say the witch was dead.

AUSTIN

So you just go with it?

CHRISTIAN

I'm not as square as you're led to believe I take it.

AUSTIN

It's not that, I just don't get you. I mean, I get most people, it's kinda a gift being in the profession I'm in outside of RECLAIMING...But you, you can't read.

CHRISTIAN

AUSTIN

I want to trust you, everything about you says I should, but everything about you says I shouldn't either. It's...perplexing.

AUSTIN takes a drink as CHRISTIAN sets his down and fills his back up.

CHRISTIAN

Truth is, I'm not a trustworthy person. Comes with the job I guess. So I understand that your reservations about me are warranted.

AUSTIN

There you go again, painting over the issue with more doubt and reassurance.

CHRISTIAN

Would you like to take this outside? Duke it out man style, get out all your transgressions?

AUSTIN

I don't have a reason to fight you. Yet.

CHRISTIAN

Exactly, so until then, share a drink, share a laugh, tell a story. We won today.

CHRISTIAN holds his glass up and forward, AUSTIN smirking as he takes his and holds it up, tapping CHRISTIAN'S as the TWO take their glasses down in one gulp before setting it down, the TWO staring each other down as the tension was palpable.

EXT. EMMA'S APARTMENT

ANTHONY knocks a few times as EMMA opens the door after a moment, EMMA looking at ANTHONY in surprise as ANTHONY nods, putting his hands in his jacket.

ANTHONY

Just thought you should know that CHARLES and the others caught JARED. They're holding him right now, and CHARLES wants us there in the morning.

EMMA

Uh, yeah okay, that's good to hear, uh, why are you here, TONY? You coulda called me to tell me this.

ANTHONY

I'm worried about you, EMMA.

EMMA

TONY...

ANTHONY

Look I know today was crazy, the last few days haven't been the best for you, But I saw you freeze today, and I...

EMMA

ANTHONY, It's taken care of okay, I'm dealing with it.

ANTHONY

You don't have to do this alone, EMMA...just...

EMMA

ANTHONY, it's late, and we have a long day tomorrow I am sure, so just...I'll see you tomorrow okay?

ANTHONY

Yeah...okay.

EMMA

Thank you.

EMMA kisses him on the cheek before she turns back and shuts the door, ANTHONY left standing with a confused look as he turns and heads off.

INT. EMMA'S APARTMENT

EMMA watches him go through her peep hole as she looks a bit upset at hurrying him off but she turns away and goes into her living room, EMMA looking at MEL who was sitting on her couch, wearing new clothes as she was drinking from a wine glass.

MEL

Trouble?

EMMA

No, just one of my RECLAIMER partners who helped you out today.

MEL

Won't they be pretty pissed off when they find out you didn't turn me in?

EMMA

I've taken care of that.

MEL

Well, I guess that leads me to the real question of why I'm here, and why you didn't turn me in. Though I think I already know the answer.

EMMA nods as she comes over and sits across from MEL, MEL setting her wine glass down as she crosses her arms.

MEL

So go ahead. Ask me.

EMMA takes a moment to think, MEL watching her carefully as EMMA nods to herself, almost as if she was reassuring herself.

EMMA

I want you to teach me the magical arts.

MEL

If I do, there is no turning back. You will always be a witch, the power of magic will never leave, and the normalcy of your existence will cease to be...

EMMA

I am tired of feeling helpless...I will be stronger...I will be better for my friends sake...I can handle this.

MEL

I can see that.

MEL sits forward.

MEL

EMMA looks at MEL with resolve as MEL just smiles back at her.
