Aria's POV . "Not that I am not grateful. Trust me, I am", I added. "I called William and expressed my concern of you being here alone after what happened before lunch. He was more than willing to give out the address to assure your safety", he explained in a stern tone, as he checked me for cuts and scrapes. "You used the dad card against him", I uttered. "I'm glad I did", his tone was harsh. "Yeah, me too", I admitted, looking down at Rico. I can handle myself, just apparently not for long, and not when I've been blindsided. f*****g hell, Aria. "You need to be more careful", Alex finished my thought for me. "Get out of my head", I agreed, rubbing my forehead. "You need to start carrying a gun, Aria", he said, his eyebrows creased with concern. "It wouldn't have helped me just now, anyway", I snapped back, throwing my hands out in frustration. Alexander's eyes grew wide with surprise, noting that he just broached a touchy subject. I stress rubbed my face before running my fingers through my hair. "Aria", Alex's voice was tender. He reapproached me with his hands up in surrender. "I can help. I can make him diasppear and no one will ever notice the difference", he whispered, closing in on me. I shook my head. "We can't do that", I muttered. "On the contrary, princess. I can do that, and will gladly do it for what he has done to you", he countered, tilting his head to the side as he placed his hands on either side of my hips on the side of the house. My anxiety spiked. Right, because he's dangerous. "I don't think that'll be necessary. Maybe he will have learned his lesson this time", I hoped. I didn't want to be the reason someone dies. To take life isn't my right. "I don't want him on my client's property. Can you have someone drop him off close to his house?", I asked, trying to wrap my mind around what is happening. "I can do that, too, princess. Are you alright?", he asked, stooping to eye level. "Yeah. I, uh, I need to get home to my son", my stress was peaking. "It's okay, princess. Go, I will take care of this. I'll even text you when it is done", he assured me, holding an arm out for me to leave. "Thank you", I whispered, taking a step to the side. I ran my fingers through my hair, before grabbing my equipment that fell to the ground during the struggle. "Aria, it's going to be okay. I promise", Alexander assured me. "I believe you", I nodded, absolutely terrified of the consequences of my own actions. I walked to my truck like a zombie. I've never had a situation escalte this far. Usually, if I have had to throw hands with someone they either take the ass whooping, or they press charges against me. Very few times has that happened, and I countered it by pressing charges against them as well. "Are you going to be okay to drive home?", Alex's voice was gentle in my ear. His body shadowed mine, bringing me a sense of comfort. I registered that I was just standing at my truck door, with my hand on the handle. Alexander carefully picked a few of my curly locks up and placed them behind my shoulder to expose my face. "Talk to me, princess", his voice held a force of compassion that spread goosebumps down my visible flesh. His hand gently traveled down my back as he waited for an answer. "Five years I have been doing this, and I've never been attacked like this by a scorned employee", I uttered. Alexander put his hand over mine, and gently tugged the handle, pulling the door open. I let my bag drop from my shoulder, into Alex's grasp. I turned and faced Alexander, catching him off guard. "What are you going to do with him?", I asked. Alex reached passed me to place my bag in the truck. "Exactly what you asked me to, princess", he answered, cooly. I scratched my forehead. "What are you instincts telling you?", I questioned. "That you need to get home", he said, with sincerity. My gaze met his. A fire burned in his eyes. "Text me when you get there. So, I know you made it safely", he instructed, as he gently stroked my jawline. I nodded, as I climbed into the driver's seat. Our hands touched as we both went for my seatbelt. "Everything is going to be okay, Aria. I promise", he reiterated, taking the lead and strapping me in. My mind is still a puddle of nonsense. I feel dirty, sullied. "Hey, where are you going, princess?", he questioned, cupping my face. "Home", I answered. "Good girl. I'll see you in the morning", he uttered, kissing my forehead. He softly closed the door and I got on the road home. "Hey Siri. Text mom", I said out loud. "Okay. What do you want to say to mom?", Siri responded. "On my way home. Need a shower first. mold. Then I'll be over to get Colin", I said. "Okay. Sending", Siri replied. My drive home wasn't long, maybe five minutes. 'I'll bring him over', my mother replied, as I put my truck in park in my driveway. "Even better", I grumbled to myself. Any time she comes to my house, I just know she is going to want to talk to me. Nothing against her.. kind of, but I don't have the energy to listen to her complain about things she has no intentions on changing. I petted my black German Shepard, who greeted me at the fence gate. "Hey baby boy. Did you work hard protecting the house today?", I greeted, walking up the porch steps. Shadow bounced around my legs, excited to see me. I let him in the house with me and deadbolted the door behind me. My mother has a key, so I am not worried about that. I stumbled to my room, stripping of my clothes so I could throw them in the laundry basket on my way passed it. I took my time in the shower, letting the water wash the events of the day away. I heard my mother and son when they came in. It was hard not to with how excited Colin was to see his shadow. That was how he got his name. He was just a puppy when Colin was born, and he has followed him around every since. I never worry because his shadow is always right there. It dawned on me that I never texted Alexander. I quickly wrapped my towel around me and grabbed my phone off my bed. I had one unread message. 'It is done. Did you make it home?', Alexander asked. 'Hey. Yes, I did. I'm sorry, I jumped straight in the shower when I got home. Thank you for earlier', I typed out. I wasn't fully dressed before my phone dinged. 'You're welcome, princess', he replied. I smiled to myself. Stop it, Aria. You aren't supposed to like that. I finished getting dressed and left my room. My mother was sitting at my kitchen table. "What the hell happened to you?", was the first words out of her mouth. "I got injured today on the job site. I'm fine", I explained it away. "Mommy!", Colin cheered, as he ran through the house towards me. "Hey baby. How was school today? Did you learn anything cool?", I asked cheerfully, as I picked him up. "Did you know that the sun is really just a big ball of burning gas?", he questioned, tilting his head sideways. "What? Really?", I played along. "Yep. So are all the other stars", he added. "That's so cool. Are you going to do a project on it?", I inquired. "Probably", he bounced happily. "Mommy, what happened?", he quickly switched moods, frowning as he touched my face. "Mommy had an accident at work, that's all", I reassured him with a gentle smile. "Oh, be more careful, mommy", he said, perking back up. I smiled. "I will baby. Go play", I said, setting him back down on his feet.
