LAYLA’S POV The shocked look on Ginny’s face when she opens the door and finds Edward and me standing outside only lasts a second before a smile quickly spreads across her lips. She pulls the door open wider. “Layla, you’re home.” Her voice is painfully cheerful. Her eyes flick to Edward. “You’re here too. Come in. Both of you.” I step inside first, Edward right behind me. The living room hasn’t changed: same furniture, same curtains, same framed family photos on the wall that somehow never included me in any prominent way. A glance at Edward beside me makes me feel ashamed. This is the first time he’s standing in the place I grew up in and the circumstances couldn’t be further from what I’d have imagined.
