CHAPTER 6 “I would like to have a word with my sister!” Maya's voice rang out and the twins stared at her in disbelief. “You must have quite the effrontery, mutt! What makes you 'think' that we would let you speak with our woman?” Maya's eyes widened, while Alycia simply turned her gaze to the side. “Please. I just want to speak with her. She is my sister and I do not know when I shall see her again." Her tone was low and pleading, making Alycia wonder what she was playing at. This time, Rowen straightened, a dangerous glint in his eyes. " I didn't see that being a problem to you when she was about to be beheaded.” “I'll speak with her," Alycia suddenly spoke, and the twins snapped their heads towards her. She stared at them both, confused by their protective gazes on her. Why do they keep staring at her like that? “Just like she said, we might not see each other again. I just want to talk to her one last time." She didn't know if they would listen to her. After all she was their property now. But she knew she had to try. She needed answers and this was the only time she night have a chance to do that. The twins stared at each other for a while. Lucien shook his head dismissively, at the same time Rowen said, “Great! Let's have it then." He crossed an arm over his chest and gestured between Alycia and Maya, “Talk." " Um…” Maya scratched her head, her gaze drifting between the twins warily, “if you do not mind…” “Not happening. If you desire to speak with her, you can do that here and be quick about it. We have a journey ahead.” “I'll be back,” Alycia interjected softly, holding their gazes. "Just for a moment, and I'll be back.” Lucien's eyes softened, on hearing the vulnerability in her voice. But Rowan was about to protest, when his brother held his arm, Let her be. She'll be back.” Alycia heaved a silent sigh of relief, and then followed Maya to the back of the pack house. They kept walking until they got to a secluded place. Alycia was silent, trying to control her emotions and get the events out of her mind. “Why did you do it?" She suddenly asked, but Maya kept walking. Alycia sighed and looked up at the sky. The sun had set, and it was almost getting dark. She shook her head and went after Maya who was stomping through the woods. “Maya!?" Maya kept walking forward, her steps brisk and steady. " Maya I'm talking to you!” Finally, Maya stopped walking and then turned to face her. Her eyes were watery, and she had her fingers clenched beside her. “ Well, I don't know what you are talking about." She retorted. " Maya, you know what I am talking about. What have I ever done to you that you preferred to see me dead? What happened to Mother and father? Why was I suddenly being accused of…killing them?” Her voice shook as she mentioned her parents. She wanted to hear from her as well. She wanted to know exactly why she did it. “I'm not a fool, Maya,” Alycia probed further as Maya remained silent, " Mother and father died strangely and I was falsely accused of having a hand in their death. We both know I'm innocent of this, but what I don't understand is why you would do such a thing. Why did you do it, Maya, and what happened to our parents?” Maya smirked, “ If you think I owe you an explanation, Alycia, then you are solely mistaken. I have nothing to say to you.” She seethed. “You have nothing to say to me? Goodness, Maya, when did you become this way? Do you even understand what you did?” “Yes. I do. And I will do it over and over again, Alycia. See you in hell!" And then she took a bend and disappeared off the woods. Alycia's brows knitted in confusion, and she made to go after her, “ I am talking to you Maya, I..Arghhh!!!” A startled gasp left her as she was immediately tackled from behind by something big. She stumbled and fell with a thud as her face hit the ground square. Low threatening growls echoed in her ears, from behind her. And when Alycia stared, she was shocked to see not two, but four to five large wolves growling and baring their teeth at her. No.... Her pulse quickened as the reality of the situation dwelt on her. That wasn't her major concern though, as she had been taught to defend herself from a younger age. It was the familiar smell of the wolves. Rogues. ***** Back at the car, where Lucien and Rowen were parked waiting for Alycia, the brothers were engaged in a heated discussion. “You felt that too, didnt you?" Rowen asked his brother, his eyes inquisitive. Lucien shook his head, attempting to dismiss the question. “How is it possible?" Rowen asked, but it was more of a statement than question. “I told you to let it be. She isn't ours, Rowen, but you insisted. She is the daughter of that mutt, Eskaal. And I have no desire whatsoever to relieve that experience ever again. She isn't her,” he said in a whisper, with a far away gaze in his eyes. “The resemblance is uncanny, that is without a doubt." Rowen hummed, “What if she's just the same person, just reincarnated?" " Impossible, and you know it. That is an old myth.” “But we can find out you know?" Rowen suggested, “Look, Lucien, see the brighter side of it. Just think of her as….” Rowen gasped loudly, as he clutched at his chest. His eyes were wide with horror, and he felt like he couldn't breathe. “What the hell is that?" He began asking, but as he stared at his brother, he had the exact same expression on his face. His shoulders hunched lower, and he clutched his chest in pain. It felt like little knives cutting deep into their chest. Burning right through them. Their eyes met and widened simultaneously. And then they shone in realization. “No!! Alycia!!!" Rowen yelled in horror, and the twins jumped down from the car in an instant. Their faces transformed to their beasts, claws protruded, as they stomped towards the woods.
