9. PRENUP

CHAPTER NINE   I watched with renewed hope as my dad let out a big unsatisfied sigh. He was obviously unknowingly buying me more time to come up with the perfect escape plan. Maybe I was going to be out of this stupid marriage after all. A smirk curled up my lips but it turned to a disappointed frown the next minute.   “I love my daughter and if getting married to you right now is what makes her happy them I’m all for it,” he smiled as everyone else clapped in happiness.   I could feel tears of anger, mixed with betrayal and frustration burn my eyes. Suddenly Dominic dipped down to whisper in my ear.   “I told you they’d would be happy for us. Now let’s make a wedding,” he was obviously enjoying my misery.   ONE HOUR AGO   “You shouldn’t have done that,” he stated in a dangerously low but really aggravated tone.   “I’m sorry-“   “Sorry? Unfortunately I don’t believe in that word. I didn’t want to do this but your attitude is forcing me to. So we are getting married, today and now,” I almost chocked on my fear. Getting married to him now? What have I done? It felt like I had sold myself to the devil and there was no way out of this.   “H-how about my parents? They will never agree to this ridiculous demand. I mean they would obviously want a well prepared wedding for their daughter,” I added hastily hoping he would change his mind.   “Oh, we will see about that,” his words were an ice cube on an almost dead heart.   I watched him make a few phone calls but all I could think of was the doom awaiting me. No, I couldn’t get married to him no matter what. I had to get out of here and out of this stupid marriage that made no sense at all. Why would he want to trap me in a marriage with him when he could literally have so many beautiful women by his side instead of a broke author going through the worst phase of her life? Nothing about all this seemed to make any sense to me.                                                                                                                                                                                                                       “So our parents will be waiting for us in the penthouse of my hotel in about twenty minutes. Meanwhile I called our lawyers,”   When he received no response or reaction from me he went ahead to explain.   “For the prenup,” I didn’t even ask how he got my lawyer’s number because I was trying to come up with an escape plan.   There was a faint knock in the door as the two lawyers got in. How did they get here so fast? Susanna greeted me in her usual cheerful manner before taking a seat next to me. They went on talking but I barely heard a word they said.   “No we are not putting her assets in the prenup. Just mine,” Dominic’s angry tone disrupted my fazed thoughts.   “But we have to-“My lawyer began objecting.   “What the f**k is wrong with you? Now listen to me carefully, you are only going to write what I say or else you get fired,” I again got lost into my world of ideas. I would care less if my lawyer was being harassed by my self-proclaimed husband to be.   “Your signature Nicole,” Susanna was upset and without checking I signed the papers she presented in front me.   I hardly noticed the lawyers leave and a few minutes later I was sitting in his limo heading to wherever we were going. Until now my mind was vague and it was frustrating me.   “Did you even check the terms of the prenup?” his deep voice drew me out of my musing.   “What is the point? It’s not like I can change anything in it,”   “I’m glad we understand each other on that,” he said pushing a copy of the prenup into my lap.   Begrudgingly I looked at it my eyes widening in total disbelief. At first I thought my eyesight was playing a sick prank on me but the figures written boldly in black ink against the white paper were real.   “Six million every six months?” I asked, my eyes feeling unusually large in my face. That was like being paid one million a month just to have his last name next to mine.   “Yeah as long as you remain my PA and wife. By the way that would be beside your salary among other privileges,” he confirmed.   “Does that mean as soon as we get divorced I lose all that?” I questioned.   “Of course,”   “Well, then you can keep the money because I’m never getting married to you,” I snapped.   “Here we are. You can deliver those news to you parents then you can pay me back all the money for your parents’ house,” Was that a smirk on his face?   “What are you talking about? “ That wasn’t making any sense at all.   “Sorry, you didn’t know? Right, they didn’t want to tell you,” he walked out of the car.   I absently followed him to the penthouse where the two families were apparently hitting it off quiet well. Reed and Julian were sitting in one corner of the lucrative penthouse, laughing about something. Both our parents were sitting on the couches, chatting like they were old pals or something. Was the world suddenly going against me?                                                                                                                                                              “By the way, don’t forget to act enigmatic otherwise…there will be consequences,” he whispered.   Julian was busy chatting off with Reed but upon our entrance everyone looked up and Reed’s eyes immediately connected with mine. A weirdly sweet flutter ran through my heart as I looked away shying. What the f**k was happening to me? Sure Reed was the model kind of hunky but that didn’t mean I had to crush on him. I barely caught Dominic’s speech coming to an end.   “We are happy for you,” My mother stated cheerfully.   The rest paid there congratulatory wishes except for Reed and my dad. Honestly I hoped my dad would object but he proved me wrong.   Back to the present   “Okay, since it’s happening at my house; Reed you’ll be in charge of decoration. Julian, you’ll be in charge of drinks and hiring the waiting staff since you are quite well versed in that area. Mrs. Wilde and mum, the kitchen is yours and finding the perfect wedding dress for my beautiful wife to be. The men, well you’ll helping me out in almost everything I need you to. The wedding is happening tonight at eight, which leaves us with approximately nine hours. Let’s get to work everybody,” he commanded.   Those were the last words I heard before I fainted. When I woke up I was lying on Dominic’s bed. No surprise there at all. What I didn’t expect was to see Reed pacing to and fro in the spacious room, a worried look on his face. When he noticed I was awake a look of relief washed his face as he rushed to my side.   “Reed?” It was more of a question than a statement.                                            “I know he is blackmailing you and I’m getting you out before it’s too late,” he muttered.
