-Rose POV-
“Come one Rose. You can’t stay in your room forever.” Nova says, throwing a pillow at me.
I catch the pillow. “It hasn’t been forever. It’s just been a week.”
Nova sighs.
“Come on. Instead of spending it here moping around, spend it partying and forgetting all about it with me.”
I lift an eyebrow. “You and Dominic are going to party? That’s surprising and by that, I mean it’s a surprise that Dominic wants to party.”
“Well... he’s not going to know.”
“What?”
“He has been spending all his time training my brother and on Alpha duties. He has been neglecting me so this is what he gets. Besides, I’m not going to do anything bad.”
I narrow my eyes at her. “Nova, when you drink and party, you do bad things.”
“Fine, what if I promise not to drink.”
“You still do bad things.”
“Oh come on.” She pulls my arm.
“Na thanks. I have a date with my Tv tonight.”
“Uh! Not Bridgerton again.”
“Yes, Bridgerton again. I haven't finished it.”
Nova heavily sighs, purposely trying to be annoying.
“Go away.”
“Ha! Fine. I’ll go for now but...” She stops, slowly puts on her reading glasses, and makes her voice low and with a very familiar accent. “...I’ll be back.”
I giggle.
I’ve been depressed this whole week since Helix and Harper have been spending their time together. I haven’t gone out of my room at all. But Nova always has a way to bring me just a bit of happiness with her crazy antics, even though they tend to get us in trouble.
I sigh and turn on my Tv while she leaves the room.
The next three weeks pass just like this. I barely eat and I don’t go out of my room at all. My wolf longs for her mate. For the man that is supposed to be with us, console us, make us happy.
I don’t know how Helix or Harper are doing. Mom tried to talk about them but I didn’t want to hear anything about it. She said that Helix came to try and see me a couple of times but she turned him away as I had instructed. That would all just make things more difficult. Even my phone has been off. I haven't turned it on once since I begin this hermit stage.
I have been thinking about the rejection. I know Nova did it with Domnic when they first found out they were mated and she said that she felt like she was dying, so they didn’t finish the rejection and she took it back. If Helix was a normal werewolf, the rejection would probably take much easier, but he is not. He is an Alpha and if I reject him, it could kill us.
(But won’t it be the same when he chooses Harper? Won’t it hurt just the same? Maybe I should just get it over with.)
My door suddenly opens.
“Enough! Get your ass up and get out of your room!”
“f**k off, Nova!” I shout.
She gasps. “You....cursing like that?”
I pout, annoyed, and look away.
It is a surprise for me to curse like that but I have been in the worse of moods of late.
“If you don’t get out of your room, I’m going to throw a party here.” She says.
“You can’t do that.”
“Oh yes, I can and before you say anything, the Alpha wouldn’t know until it’s too late. Yes, we would all be cramped in here but it would be a party non the less and... I am going to blame it on you.”
I gasp. “Nova, stop.”
“No. You can’t let that conniving b***h win. Do you really think she didn’t get pregnant on purpose? Helix is the one that is being taken advantage off here. You are supposed to be his mate, if you want him, fight for him.”
“How? He has to be with Harper because of the baby.” I say in a mocking tone and roll my eyes.
“Look, I couldn’t find s**t when I investigated the drinks from that night but I talked to everyone that was there and every single person got drunk to the point they passed out. Gabriel included and you know that with him that shouldn’t have happened because that boy doesn’t drink more than two.”
I look down thinking that she is right. My brother never drinks more than two because of his training with dad.
“It is obvious that someone spiked those drinks and who is the most who has to gain from this?”
I stay quiet, thinking. Nova takes her phone out and starts making a call.
“Hey! Party in Rose’s room tonight, bring everyone-”
“NOVA!”
She looks at me and points to the door. “I can cancel it right now if you just walk out.”
I get up and start to walk past her. “Grrr! I don’t even know how you are my best friend.”
“Tch, girl! Because I am great! Don’t even get me started.”
I stomp my way out of my room with Nova behind me.
“Now what?”
“Now we go have lunch in the dining room like normal people, you Gollum.”
(Gollum? The creature from that one movie?)
Nova puts her hand on her mouth, muffling the sound and making her next words sound growly and weird. “Gollum, Gollum.” She says.
I look at her completely perplexed and really wondering how this girl is my best friend.
She looks at me with a smile. “Yeah, you almost look like him too. The sun might even burn your eyes.”
“Oh, stop it. You are so stupid.”
She laughs.
We get to the dining room and we start having lunch. It is normally packed as usual.
“Yeah, so Helix and Harper are always arguing because she wants him with her at all times but he wants his space. She is so clingy.” Nova says.
“Uhu.”
She continues. “And she is milking the whole weak pregnant girl. She tries to guilt Helix into staying with her all the time. The poor guy can’t go to the bathroom without telling her first.”
“Nova, stop talking about him.”
The point of locking myself in my room this whole month was to keep myself from thinking of him.
“Fine, but look.” She points to the doorway where Helix appears with Harper behind him.
With a sting in my heart, I watch as she tries to cling to his arm but he gently tries to push her away.
“For goddess's sake Harper. I’m just going to get a drink.” He says.
“But I can come with you.” She says.
“I don’t want you to. I want to be alone.”
“Helix, come one.” She pouts and gives him puppy eyes.
“Leave me alone for one damn minute!” He almost shouts.
“Fine.” She pouts. “But hurry up.” She says.
She stomps back into the hall and Helix walks into the kitchen with a deep inhaled breath.
“I do not like her one bit.” Nova says.
She gets up, takes my hand, and drags me out of my chair almost making me fall to the floor.
“What the hell!”
I manage to keep my balance but with her strength, she pulls me as I stumble to keep up, and then she shoves me inside the kitchen.
I come face to face with Helix who with wide eyes looks at me, just inches away from my face.
“Talk.” Nova says and disappears back into the dining room.
For a few seconds, there is quiet.
“Rose.” He whispers.
My mouth quivers, not knowing what to say. I turn around, ready to bolt it out of there but he holds me by the wrist.
“Don’t go.” He says.
“I should.”
“No.” He says. “Stay.”
He slowly walks up to me and suddenly, wraps his arms around me from behind. I am paralyzed. Not just out of shock but also from enjoying it.
