Caius stayed out of my way all day, but I knew he had not gone out and that he had not called for somebody else to entertain him all day.
I avoided leaving my room so that I didn’t have to talk to him, but I had questions I wanted him to answer. Things like telling me exactly why he had come back home when he was not supposed to be back in the city for several days and he had only just left.
I kept on replaying our interaction in my mind, searching for some clue that would reveal the truth.
He had seemed to be genuinely surprised and relieved to find me in his bedroom. It could have been because he thought I would run away, or that I would do something stupid as soon as I was left on my own…
