When I got home, I lay awake thinking about the things Cal had told me. He was the kind of man who gave a lot of information in very few words, and I understood that he was intending for me to read between the lines - like telling me what the Emperor was looking for so that I could avoid giving him what he wanted. I started to fixate on what he had said about the gladiators, though. I was torn between wanting to find Jax and thinking he must have moved on from the brief time we spent together as friends on our way to the city. Now I knew that things were probably difficult for him, and I wanted to find him. I needed to know that he was OK.
